My grandfather had Alzheimer' s disease before he died. I feel like his death was somewhat dampened by the fact that we had all watched him deteriorate from the man that he was. To us, he died when he got Alzheimer's. He was a major in the Air Force and a remarkably intelligent man. He was generally peaceful and was always good to have around. He just had a calming atmosphere about him. Honestly, the way he lived shouldn't have earned him such a disease.

The content was funny, but it really hit close to home for me. I'm really not sure how I should feel about it.

His reaction makes me extremely happy.

Me and my sis help my Grandma raise her mom (who is 93) who has dementia and she constantly forgets everything recent. Even her old-term is failing and when we tell her people who she thought were alive, it's extremely hard to do. It's not as hard on us as it is for our grandmother because she lived with such a sharp-minded woman who is now rapidly declining. She gets so confused and forgets who her children are because she is only remembering them from when they are younger.

We need to be funding a cure for Alzheimer's.

... we need to be funding it more than we are...

(I don't know how much effort is being put in now, but I want there to be more)

My Grandfather had 2 strokes within a year and was hanging on strong for a few months. He had signs of Alzheimer's before the strokes, and his mental capacity was dwindling afterwards. He would always ask about me, my family would tell me, always wanting to know if I was ok.

Before I left for Boot Camp, I went to visit, knowing all too well it would be my last time to see him. I was so choked up I couldn't even say goodbye. He died while I was in training...no notice...no letter...

Before I left home this past time, my family gathered (my dad's side) to see for the last time before I left for a long while. They gave me his crucifix, the one he wore for the last 3 years of his life...of everyone in my family, they gave it to me. I do not know why, but I feel honored.

Thanks for reading, this post just reminded me of that great man.

I miss him.

My gramps had alzheimers, and it never hit me how bad it was until one day he stopped me in the hall and asked me if his brother was in the bedroom. His brother had been dead for almost thirty years, so I told him no, his brother wasn't there. I started to cry when he went back to the living room.

I'd hate to be the one to complain but that's not your grandpa...I've seen this picture before, it's one thing to repost something, but it's another to claim him as "your grandpa."
