This guy is amazing , he made Pan's Labyrinth , The Hellboy Movies , Blade Movies and I haven't seen Crimson Peak or Pacific Rim but they do seem cool.

Hellboy and Pacific Rim aren't exactly masterpieces though

Correct me if I'm wrong (it's been a long while since I watched P.R.), but wasn't it 2+a mech vs 1? Hardly fair.

Not sure if it interests but there is a comic that just started focused on Pacific Rim, got a lot to do with the drift and everything and you see some pretty epic Jaegers as well.

It's called Tales from the Drift.

Got ya covered man. There's a better site called viewcomic.com which has a but ton of awesome comics on it including the pacific rim one but it's down due to funding at the moment. This one will do for the minute though.

www.hellocomic.com/pacific-rim-tales-from-the-drift-2015/c1/p1

Check the other site though, when it's back online and if you're a comic fan you'll be really happy.

How about Atlantic Rim?
Liberty Prime (piloted by Becket and Mako)
Nietzsche Supreme (piloted by the two, always squabbling, German science guys)
Narked Ace
Bretangne Knight
Jötunn Hammer

Story: Kaijus are back! in the Atlantic! More Fights, more bromance, more national sterotypes!
User avatar #42 to #20 - adunsaveme (12/13/2015) [-]
I want another one that doesn't try to have a touching human story taking up time that could be used for monster punching. It was so awfully-written.
User avatar #86 to #42 - nigeltheoutlaw (12/13/2015) [-]
Agreed. Less scrote fondling between the nip and Chad and more monster bashing.
User avatar #46 to #20 - donbionicle (12/13/2015) [-]
Do we really need a sequel though? Can't it just be a standalone movie? It had its story, it told it well, and it had a satisfying conclusion. The bad guys are beat and probably gonna stay beaten, and I'm not sure where the story'd go after this.

For instance, NIght at the Museum-that was a good enough movie, but it lost its magic when it got 2 sequels.
#29 to #20 - jakeattack (12/13/2015) [-]
i saw that but then i looked ant it seemed he meant he turned in the script for review and funding

expensive as **** movies, bruv

mall cop and museum movies are cheap and ******
User avatar #38 to #21 - eddymolly (12/13/2015) [-]
Still a pretty solid investment, per wikipedia:
Budget: $190 mil
Box office: $411 million

A good solid 215% return.
But compare that to Night at the Museum which had a 522% return or Paul Blart which had a 700% return you can see why there's no sequel yet.
User avatar #43 to #38 - donbionicle (12/13/2015) [-]
Either way more people went to see Paul Blart than I thought, or that movie was made for free.
User avatar #56 to #43 - eddymolly (12/13/2015) [-]
It cost $26 million to make, and made $183 million, so both really.

Horrifically, it was the number 1 film in US box offices when it was released. What is wrong with you people

One of the most infuriatingly **** movies to come out recently. Those two ******* scientists trying to qualify a the science behind a portal opening up and spewing out demons, their terrible scripting and over-acting were a complete waste of time. I am a Sons of Anarchy fan but Charlie Hunnam was such a douche in Pacific Rim, further **** acting and poor scriptwriting. In general there was probably about 25 minutes of actual robots fighting monsters in a 2 hour movie. The monster that took a nuclear explosion to the face survives and is then dispatched by a sword?... or the fact that after numerous mechs getting taken out trying to punch and shoot these things, Charlie Hunnam decides to whip out said sword, which cuts through the monster like a hot knife through butter. Honestly triggers me so hard this movie, how do you **** up giant robots fighting giant monsters with a budget this big? Needed way more action so much **** acting and filler content. Not quite as bad as Need for Speed last year however...

"Pronounced like a J" to an English-speaker means it sounds like "DZ," like in "job."

Saying it's pronounced like an English Y is better for a monolingual speaker of English.
User avatar #128 to #123 - whiteoverblue (12/13/2015) [-]
That would sound ridiculous to my ears, and to my peers' too. We would even try to transliterate it as "Gui-iermo."

an English Y sound instead of the English J sound we're so used to hearing when we read a LL.

Which variations of it are there, besides Zh, as it is pronounced in the name Jacques?
#136 to #134 - sacrilegious (12/13/2015) [-]
The English <j> usually represents the affricate /dz/.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/J

It appears in loan words, like "Jacques" as /z/ and in words like "fjord" as a "y" sund which is represented in IPA as /j/.
User avatar #137 to #136 - whiteoverblue (12/13/2015) [-]
there's the answer you're looking for. "DZ"

I can definitely see the problem, then. You've met the split between the Spanish who says it as Y, and the Spanish who says it as J. Long story, but to give you a point of reference, the Colombian pronunciation, on the same page you linked, is the same as the Mexican one.

www.ign.com/articles/2008/08/22/guillermo-del-toro-interview (In the first paragraph they lay it out phonetically) Names are weird, people pronounce them any variety of ways. For instance Stephen Colbert, with a silent t and my cousins whose last name is spelled the exact same way but pronounce the t at the end

That was given by the author Patrick Kolan. That's okay given that it is catered to an English audience, but I would find it difficult to understand you if you had said "ghee-air-mo"
