I hate it when people try to defend Halo 4 and don't know what they're talking about. And when they assume the other party hasn't read the books, oooh it just pisses me off.
I have read all the canonical books. All of them. Except the ones that 343i touched because those are noncanonical in my mind. I have most of them on a shelf behind me. I have fucking Halo and Philosophy!

Why is it so hard for people to get that the sins are entirely the son's and the father actually knew what he was doing.

I had how they just destroyed all the mystery behind the Forerunners, but worse than that is how they obviously knew that would ruin the story and added a new "mystery" force, the Precursors. I mean, precursor is essentially just a synonym of forerunner. They stole the same idea while knowingly ruining the original.

>Armor is artstyle, it's okay to completely change it between games without giving any explanation in defiance of impossibility

As a great man once said, I am sO DONE

You mean Master Chief's armor wasn't replaced and upgraded by automated systems while he was napping in the Cryo tube?
User avatar #164617 to #164615 - leonhardt (01/01/2014) [-]
Cause that's what I was told...
User avatar #164627 to #164617 - fargtwo (01/01/2014) [-]
You were lied to. In Cryosleep, anything touching your skin basically gets frozen ontoyour body, giving you something approaching freezerburn. The Spartans hate it but it's easier than taking off their armor before getting in and putting it back on when they get out. And the Forward Unto Dawn had no reason to have an automated system designed to put remove and replace armor worn by one single soldier in the entire military built into the cryopod. And even if they did, that would be the kind of thing you explain pretty damn quick.
User avatar #164636 to #164627 - leonhardt (01/01/2014) [-]
So he couldn't have possibly been taken out of cryosleep then put back under after his shit was updated, could he?

Nope. The ship was on emergency power as it was, mostly because they were on half a ship. The bow was all that made it through the slipspace rupture. And even if that had happened, that's the kind of thing you explain immediately. You don't leave players wondering "Hey, where did my suit of arguably the single most iconic western sci-fi videogame armor go? Did they swap it out while I was sleeping?" If that's the explanation that 343i went with, then they're even more retarded than I think they are.

Now this is how you retroactively add armor.

Personally I like heavy armor and the ability to just shrug off bullets and laugh as I mow people down with a detached Machine Gun Turret.
#164650 to #164644 - leonhardt (01/01/2014) [-]
Maybe they didn't explain it immediately because it's not really that important or what you should be worrying about when the covenant start attacking your ship.

I wish they would have gone with the early concept for the Mantis.

Which was basically a mech suit built around a Spartan.

4th one sure as hell replaced his codpiece.
#164664 to #164650 - fargtwo (01/01/2014) [-]
They had a little tablet thing behind the tube that explained the story so far. They had their chance to at least give a BS explanation and they fucked it up.

Ugh. Don't even get me started on the Mantis. There are so many things wrong with how it's built it's not even funny. The fucking rocket bikes from Halo Legends would have been better. And that they managed to fuck it up when the Prototype Armor existed is just one more reason for me to hate them.
#164671 to #164664 - leonhardt (01/01/2014) [-]
So do you like the Metal Gear one or the Spartan Gundam better?

I wanna ride that Cyclops 2 from Adrift. Looks damn sexy.

The Mantis 2 one still has the same problem the Mantis has. Little spindly legs and armor in all the wrong places, especially considering the UNSC is fighting against an enemy that uses primarily plasma-based weaponry. The second the shields pop (And they will, Covie weaponry has always been better at popping shielding than UNSC weaponry and the gap only increases the larger the weapon gets) those little legs are going to be piles of slag and the arms are going to get melted off. I prefer the second and third ones in what you posted. The second one is almost exactly the Prototype which really makes me wonder why anyone in 343i's art department still has a fucking job.

The second one (Or the third including the initial reference Spartan) is actually the same unit as the Prototype.

Would have been badass to run around and wreck shit with it like they did with the Space Fighter mission in Reach.

Hell, even a Cyclops 1 would have been more fun to run around in and punch shit.

Would have also liked the 4th one (Spartan+Suit) instead of the Mantis' wimpy bullshit.

Yeah, I see it now. I was looking at it wrong. And yeah, Long Night of Solace was fun as hell. It was kind of funny though because Blue Team's original mission was to take Cortana and do almost exactly what Noble Team did. They were supposed to fly the Pillar of Autumn's special MAC (It had multiple batteries that let it fire off several smaller rounds that were basically building sized Hollow Points and the charging tunnel ran the full length of the ship so the rounds flew faster than usual ones) to disable a Covenant ship, hijack it, and pilot it (with Cortana's help) back to High Charity and kidnap a Prophet to use as a bargaining chip to end the war. They were more or less on their way out when Reach got hit.

Hopefully in Halo 5 we'll have more Mechs at our disposal.
Including that Cyclops 2.

And that fucking Firefight Forge I've been wanting since ODST.

>Good things that anyone wants

I wouldn't hold your breath.

They could do it like Spore did with Galactic Adventures.

Edit the stage for each wave. Place drop points, set objectives. Customize your own troops to use as enemies (I.e. Jet Pack Elites with Fuel Rod Guns, Spartans/Marines with Covie weapons, etc.) Set up events like Wraith drops or Banshee strafing runs.
Then upload and share your missions like you would any other Forge level.

The Prototype would be a lot like a MAX from Planetside 2, except nowhere near as slow and clunky because it has boosters. Justifying the player getting in and out quickly during a match would be the hardest part.
User avatar #164727 to #164726 - fargtwo (01/01/2014) [-]
They could do it like Titanfall is doing titans. Orbital drops work for everything.
User avatar #164730 to #164727 - leonhardt (01/01/2014) [-]
Yeah, but the Titans are mechs, though. The Prototype was a exosuit welded onto the Spartan Suit. I.e. Takes a long time to put on and take off.

Unless you choose to spawn as a Prototype and are dropped in.

Though I guess they could just have it open up in the front to let the player in and out.
#164735 to #164730 - fargtwo (01/01/2014) [-]
It was a prototype, they could make it a little more accessible. The later MJOLNIR suits were easier to get in and out of I think so it makes sense that the exoskeleton would be too. Or they could do it like Battlefield does their things and have some position a team has to hold to use it.

I really want SPI armor. It was standard issue for S3's and wasn't nearly as powerful or protective as the MJOLNIR suits but it had active camo.
User avatar #164744 to #164735 - leonhardt (01/01/2014) [-]
It'd be cool if your armor choices in Halo 5 actually affected Gameplay.

Like if you get choose bulky heavy armor you can survive a bit longer, but move slightly slower.
Or if you get the Airborne Ops armor you can use the jetpack for longer and survive falls from greater heights.
Recon armor lets you move faster but is less protective.

Obvious shit. And you can mix it up to basically create your own class. Like Airborne armor with Heavy shoulder pads and Recon legs for a good Assault build.
User avatar #164747 to #164744 - fargtwo (01/01/2014) [-]
I'd just wear all Operator. I loved sneaking around in Reach with active camo. I hated the radar ghosts though. Being invisible didn't do you much good when the enemy knew there was someone near them.
