That doesn't change the fact that it's a great addition to the saga, trust me, I loved it, but it would have been smarter for Disney to bring it down a couple notches with the advertising and such.

In 2004 It was epic, because it was first production with shadows/physic in realtime/reflections. It has best graphic. And -thanks advanced physics engine. New level of realism. Next part will be released , when VR technology will be a standard in each house. Or, when they will be able to make photo-realistic graphic.

Half Life 3 will only get released once valve can do something as revolutionary as the other two games were, we will probably see something when vr gets released and is common place.

So it could be that his part in the creation of HL3 is finished, and they no longer need him because the story is already done, and now the game just needs to be coded.

If you seriously think that there is not already a majority of the writing already done for the game (which the company would have rights to, not the individual employee) then you are just dumb enough to think this matters.
