Well, think about it in other way. There's only so much simplifying we can get. Right now we have seemingly completely unattended hair and generic make up. Maybe some time in the future everything will get more complicated and effortful again.
The history is one big rollercoaster where "modern vs classic" battle is having people changing sides every now and then.
Also, on the other side of things, I think it's not that bad of a sign that nowadays women don't have to waste hours of time on their looks and sleep in inconvenient hair rollers to have that currently accepted look. Keeping it simple lets you keep your natural hair in good condition, too. My mom used to be that 1980 hairstyle girl when she was young and now her hair look like **** because she messed with them too much. So there's also that.
Your moms hair wouldn't still be messed up from that many years ago. Hair is always healthy coming out of your head and hair grows about six inches a year. If it's messed up now, it's because shes doing something to it to damage it now.
my grandad came to england with my grandma and mother and famiy from ireland in the 50s, and they worked along side jamaicans and carribean people... also indians, so not every single white person was racist back in those days.
None of those looked particularly good. Maybe 1910 is the the best, on par with 2010. All looked like they would take a ridiculous amount of work to pull off and don't make her much more attractive.
Cut it shorter, make a ponytail and don't wear make up. Adorable. Boom. Win.
