Of course it's not.

Evolution is a theory, which means that it has been confirmed many times over through repeated testing. That does not mean necessarily that the theory itself is 100% accurate, but it's pretty damn close with what we know, and will likely be used as a vantage point for even more accurate theories on where life came from. Darwin's Theory has changed; it hasn't been disproven altogether, in fact it's been improved on.

a fact is something observable.

we can observe evolution in bacterial colonies.

evolution is the name for a scientific theory, and it is also the name for the observable process

the difference between microevolution and macroevolution is the amount of time involved, not the scope of it.

if you can't spell evolution, and you don't know what it is, you have no right to call it a "weak" theory.

Theories are, in fact, things that are widely accepted but unproved, and unable to be proved. Other theories include gravity, the Big Bang, plate tectonics, atoms, climate change, and the idea that if you flip a coin, it'll land on heads half the time and tails the other half.

breeding dogs from wolves isn't evolution. It's a fact that dogs are a type of wolf that have been domesticated, and have also been bred for certain traits. We have evidence of it, there's proof, and we're still doing it today. It's a fact.

that's not what a theory is.

a theory and a law are essentially the same thing; literally the ONLY difference between the two is that a law describes something whereas a theory explains something.

they have the exact same level of authority in the scientific world.
User avatar #160 to #156 - mitchr
Reply 0 123456789123345869
(12/22/2013) [-]
Yes, actually.
See, a theory is something that explains. It has to explain and not describe, since explaining is a possibility. A theory cannot be proven beyond a shadow of a doubt.
In fact, I made it clear, I thought, that theories are often irrefutable. Gravity, plate tectonics, and the outcome of a coin flip- all three are theories, but everyone knows that if you flip a coin it will come out as heads half the time and tails the other half. It's irrefutable.
A law, meanwhile, is something that can be proven as true- an object that is in motion remains in motion unless acted upon by an outside force, for example. That can be proven. If you push something in space, where there is no air, it will keep going until acted on by something else- friction, gravity, collisions.
I did not give the exact definition of theory, no, but that was because I wasn't trying to. I was trying to explain that a theory can be something that is pretty much definitely true, so that he would be right.

TLDR: Quit yer damn nitpicking.
Also, theories can, in fact, be disproven. It's happened before.

"A law, meanwhile, is something that can be proven as true"
no, this is wrong. Laws can be proven false, and it has happened before. Laws are the same thing as theories, except they describe something instead of explain it. this is the kind of misinformation I'm tired of seeing being spread on the internet and by ignorant school teachers.

I'm not being pedantic; it's incredibly important to understand the difference between laws and theories when you're going to try and debate scientific arguments

also, in response to what you've stated in other comments, evolution is also a fact, in addition to a theory. it's an observable phenomenon, which is the definition of a scientific fact.

Alright, fair enough.
However, when the difference between a law and a theory isn't a factor as much, it's somewhat irrelevant to bring it up. If I didn't get the definition right, which, again, I wasn't going for the definition, but got it close enough that it doesn't matter, then oh well.
Unless there is some way it actually disproves or invalidates my point, in which case it is in fact relevant. But you didn't explain how it does either, so if there is a way, tell me.
Also, sorry for being a dick in my previous reply. Haven't been feeling great, so yeah. Doesn't justify acting like an asshole, though.

They can accept or reject evolution all they want. If they reject it, I'm going to think they're probably stupid unless they can think of a viable alternative with proof. But animal breeding isn't a theory. We're ******* doing it right now. We did it ages ago. You cannot refute this ****, as it is the truth. It's not the fact that it's evolution, it's that he's misguided confusing breeding with evolution.

Not true. You could take two identically sized strips of tape, and use them to collect hair from yourself and a chimp. You could count the hairs on each, and test the validity of my information.
But the chimp would most likely mangle you for doing so. So just trust me on this one, mate.

I would still have to use my human logic and senses to determine that this is an accurate test anyway. If I can't trust humans as sources of information then I will have no sources because everything I see is from a human perspective.

Because they have been bred to be like this. They have been stripped of all their natural abilities so that they can be cute. They can't even breed without medical help. These animals aren't supposed to survive, but we let them. They are dependent of us. It's terrible and inhumane, and everyone loves it.

Thumb me down. I feel the same way about chihuahuas, munchkin cats and other cuddly wuddly animals that have been bred to be like this.

While there are some dumb-looking breeds that are actually bred for a purpose (like dachsunds, which can apparently hunt badgers) I gotta agree with you. Breeding them just to be purse dogs is retarded.

Not all purebreds are like that. Granted, the vast majority are, because a dog's utility as a working animal has basically been replaced by technological advances, but there are still breeders out there who breed for physical strength/instinct/health over the aesthetic value of the animal. And it's not just large working dogs, either. I have a miniature dachshund whose line originated in germany and was kept an untainted "working dog" line. As a result I have a wiener dog who can successfully (and VERY quickly) kill possums, foxes, moles, rabbits, etc. without ever having been trained to do so. He's pushing 14 and is still able to do these things with minimal effort.

I'm still against the AKC and everything it stands for, and honestly I wouldn't have gotten a purebred if he hadn't been a gift; but I think it's important for people to know there are responsible breeders out there, so they can be smarter about it if they absolutely must have a purebred dog.

To be honest, it's sad to own a pet that is 100% dependant on us. I don't think we should've bred such breeds of animals... I have a cat right now, and I feel bad for it, because we and by we, I mean my neighbor that ******* kidnapped my cat because she didn't have a collar outside some day, and she ''wasn't aware it was ours''. declawed her... If someone in our family were to be abusive towards her, she couldn't run away, because she's completely defenseless. It is truly a sad thought..

Fun fact: ASIANS CAN ACTUALLY READ MINDS!!!!!!!!!!!!
they can hear, and see what your visually thinking
this is the complete truth
The reason a lot of Asians have completely expressionless faces, segregate from everybody else-only associate with Asians and don’t associate with non Asians that much, and are very unfriendly in general is to avoid accidentally revealing that they can read minds. If all over a billion Asians where to show facial expressions all the time just as much as non Asians, integrate and associate with non Asians much more, and be much more friendly and talkative, then a lot of them might accidentally reveal that they can read minds by accidentally showing a facial expression or dirty look when someone thinks, or visually pictures something in their mind they don’t like, find astonishing, or funny etc because those people might see that and and really wonder what that was that just happened there and see the connection, and they might accidentally say something similar to what the person was just thinking and going to say. If they all associated with non Asians a lot more then there would be a lot more people around for them to accidentally show facial expressions when those people think things they don’t like etc, so they segregate and only associate with Asians so there won’t be anyone around for them to see that and have any accidents happen in the first place.
Try thinking, best yet visually picturing in your mind something absolutely crazy as you possibly can when you are around Asians, and try looking for Asians who give people particular looks, especially dirty looks for what appears to be for completely no reason, that is them giving people looks when they hear and visually see someone thinking something they don’t like, find astonishing, or funny etc.
I know this may sound crazy, impossible and unbelievable, BUT IT ISN’T CRAZY WHEN ITS TRUE
You have to spread the message!!!!!
The world has to know about this!!!!!
