I think that gun ownership is a great thing, and handguns are fine. But I feel like the line is blurred when people demand the right to own an automatic assault rifle with a large magazine. I feel like a pistol, maybe a rifle, is all you need.

um, for the uneducated and uninitiated, the extreme majority of so-called "assault weapons" are semi-automatic, the same as most handguns. one shot per trigger pull. most military rifles are either burst fire, 3-4 rounds per pull, or automatic, which is a bullet hose.
for a civilian to own a true automatic weapon, you have to get a class-3 liscense and basically forfeit your right to privacy in its entirety, because the ATF has the right to come and inspect your house any time they please without your consent.
more people are murdered by .22 caliber bullets, which is only goot for muder and squirels, because it is tiny and quiet. you can have lots of ammo in a tiny gun that you can hide easily. most media designated "assault weapons" are generally .223 or 7.62x39 which have much larger casings and are extremely loud. criminals are almost always going to opt for small and quiet

the only reason im alive today is because of my 'assault rifle' (which is a misused term you find thrown around like **** in a chimpanzee exhibit). 4 asshole thugs broke into my house and i turned them and the whole ******* house into swiss cheese. they all had guns, too, but my oh so evil 'assault rifle' was what tilted the field in my favor. if it was illegal to own, i wouldnt own it, and i would be dead as mud today.

I don't own a full auto (don't have the money for licencing, they are not that easy to get legally), but I do have a mini-14 with what would be considered a large magazine (15 rounds) for that gun.I think the process in place is good, the problem are illegal firearms that a criminal wouldn't even qualify for legally.
