Gun free zones on campus and whatever wouldn't protect students from muderers, but they would protect students from careless idiots who risk harming someone while showing off how cool they are for having a gun.
I'm not saying there's a lot of these people, but the more likely a person is to have a gun, the more likely a moron is to have one as well.

ironthrush (01/09/2016) [-] Man I agree with you to a point but do you SINCERELY think that a moron is something we need walking around nowadays? And before your "other innocent people will get hurt" thing, other innocent people should know not to be around a moron with a gun. People are trying so hard to be proactive that they're completely disregarding reaction. Someone that's smart isn't going to be around their buddy that's blitzed with a shotgun, we don't need to remove the shotgun we need to let people either learn their lessons or get hurt.

SteyrAUG (01/09/2016) [-] Idaho passed a law allowing weapons on college campuses a couple years ago. It permits retired law enforcement officers and those people holding the state's enhanced concealed-carry permit to bring firearms to campus, but bans weapons in dormitories and buildings that can hold more than 1,000 people, such as sports or concert venues.
So it's not like they're just going "HEY EVERYONE HERE'S A MACHINE PISTOL HAVE A BLAST!"

in order to get a concealed carry permit, you have to demonstrate that you're not an idiot
So only people who aren't idiots would be allowed to have guns
so it being to protect people from careless idiots doesn't hold up to scrutiny

Completely gun-free zones shouldn't be in a country like the USA. There must be people able to stop gunning rampagers, but students, teachers, janitors and other people there whose job isn't to ensure the safety should not have guns on them in the building.
