it actually shows perfectly exactly why Muricans' don't want gun control, nothing to do with Safety or protecting themselves or their Families. It's because they like guns they have many of them and don't want anyone to take them away, even if it is for the good of the Country.

I feel like when people align themselves with political parties, they polarize on issues that would work out better with compromise. I'm for responsible gun ownership, the right to bear arms, and the right to defend yourself with lethal force if necessary, but I'm also for background checks, registration (just like it's required for cars) and, to a lesser degree, licensing, with free gun safety education. Wordy sentences aside, I don't feel it's too much to ask, but I'd be interested to hear an intelligent, well-thought out rebuttal.

I agree with your thought on political parties, and I would vote for an independent years before one of the two parties.
I believe any responsible person should be able to own a firearm, without registration (albeit for a lot of firearms there is already a registry in the form of a $200 NFA tax stamp) or licensing. I don't mean to be seen as a "black helicopters in the sky" type of person, but i can see with how Left Americans are taking a large step forward in the US, they'll use the registry against gun owners and use violent methods to strip us of our rights, due to them lapsing over the whole "majority rule; minority right" aspect of our law.
I think free gun safety education is a FANTASTIC idea because it'll bring gun culture out of the shadows and stop scaring people who don't understand guns and how they work.

www.infoplease.com/ipa/A0777958.html Scroll down to the bottom. Most school shootings and such do happen in the US.

Well, a cake was never carried into a public place and used to kill many people.

Interesting point, even if I do disagree with it, but it's a bad metaphor.

i wonder why so many people have guns then...oh wait its cos the gun control laws in the states arent that restrictive at all

So what, you're gonna say the Geneva Conventions are a bite too?

As someone who doesn't have a cake, living in a country that has been cakeless for a long time and where nobody really wants cake anymore, I can say this: the reason you got the cake in the first place is COMPLETELY outdated.

Anything can be utilised as a weapon if one is creative enough.

Phones and standard household chemicals become bombs, forks become shivs, baseball bats become bludgeons, cars can be used to run people down, knives to disembowel. Slate to slit a throat, my hands and fingers to hold your neck. My boot to introduce you to a curb, a broken branch to stick in your eye. My dogtas become 'brass knuckles', my belt to strangle you. My standard ball point pen, bleach in my washroom, matches to light you ablaze, and petrol to help the cause.

The fact of the matter is that people find ways to kill people and for whatever reason people think that removing firearms from those who own them legally is going to stop people from owning them illegally.

Laws ban/limit civilian ownership of firearms in Scotland, and yet they are still owned by those who circumvent the law.

this would be true if everyone around you had severe diabetes and you force-fed others the cake.

Historically speaking, citizens of any country would be well-advised to take advantage of access to weaponry. Many families keep a store of foodstuffs and water in the case of a natural disaster, so why does it make less sense to protect your autonomy as a human being?

Nothing, not school shootings, not murderous rampages, nothing justifies allowing someone else to deprive you of the ability to (proverbially) bare your teeth should the need arise. Though many refuse to see it, we humans live now as we always have: in competition for survival.

We invent new, more deadly guns, and you expect no new laws to go with it? In 1934, guns weren't widely available to the public and you couldn't kill 100 people in 20 seconds with them.

I really don't think that's a good example.
People have attacked US presidents with guns, and presidents died.
Someone attacked the Canadian Prime Minister with a pastry, and all they did was arrest him and joke about PEI.

I think the Clinton crime bill might be a bad example, since that was lifted in 2004 (it was an executive order that only lasted ten years), it's like going to the baker to have that piece given back.

Like what Mr. Colion Noir said, "you know you're a gun nut when... September 27th, 1994 was the worst day of your life... September 27th, 2004 was the best day of your life...".
