I've played many hours, and I've had lots of practice. As indicated by the 3892.7 miles that car alone has accumulated.
As you can see, my poor car hasn't gotten away cleanly, it's beaten and battered quite badly, mostly from having to ditch to the guard rail at the last second to avoid slamming into a tour bus head on.

Nah, I-88 doesn't have much compromise room, you get stuck in the oncoming lane, and have a wall of cars coming at you, with almost no way of dodging them.
If you can cover the mountain road going all outside of the map, then you can cover a lot of miles easily, and there's numerous shortcuts, and super jumps you can use to your advantage, and dodge all but about 2 of the tricky corners.

Basically I had to make 2 entire laps around pretty much the entire map to do that.
Took something like 24 miles of constant boosting, as well.

Also, you can see I took the Crawford route to finish the run off, it's a pretty good road to use if you want to keep boost, lots of room to get out of the way, a nice jump in the middle of one of the less compromising areas, if you think you need the boost, or don't want to chance the traffic, then you have a nice set of drift corners you can use to your advantage.

I'll put it like this, simply staying in the oncoming lane to keep your boost chain going, while fairly simple on paper, is very difficult in practice. Boost cars can take advantage of everything to obtain more boost, they aren't limited to just jumps, or just oncoming, or just destruction, they can use all of it.

If you are ever on the train tracks in the tunnel, right beside W. Crawford, there's that ramp in the tunnel that connects you between the tracks and Crawford, with a huge line of pylons placed neatly for you to just drive through... If you're boosting through, try to hit as many of them as you can, they don't give a ton of boost, but they may just give you the little chunk you need to chain up another boost to get you to the other end of the tunnel.

The big surf DLC is by far the best DLC ever made, because it didn't feel like it was left out by purpose and added only to because the developers wanted money. Even though they do.

I know, when I had my xbox I used to play it. Got it through an indie bundle and you can't get any of the DLC's anymore, they closed the store for PC (Also, the big surf DLC was never even made for it)...

Still, driving around the city like a badass, pissing off aggresion car players as a stunt car and leading them through all sorts of obstacles and jumps while being chased was the best ******* thing ever. Wish they would make some sort of sequel or even a completely new burnout game with that same style of open world online...

Well we did get Need For Speed Most Wanted last year that was some sort of an sequel, but theres a little chance that Criterion games would make a new Burnout, even though it won't come out for a while. www.gamespot.com/articles/burnout-developer-criterion-moving-away-from-racing-games/1100-6407020/
