Vin Diesel was also the voice of the Iron Giant. Also uttered 3 meaningful words before he sacrificed himself for the people he cared for. Coincidence? I THINK NOT!

Lots of speculation that his role in Guardians was a result of talks to have him as a lead character in a future marvel movie. I imagine the lead role is still on the table.

yeah i get what you're saying but at the end of the day he only uttered 4 words throughout the entire movie. his voice recording couldn't have lasted more than 30 seconds. heck, it might not even BE his voice at all. like you said, they just slapped his name on the movie for the sake of marketing.

I said the same thing after I saw the movie. But apparently he also said it in many different languages and was the CGI base model of Groot like barstoolninja said.

Even if it was only four words, he said them with different tones each time, meaning he had to do several different recordings, probably more than they actually used, so that they can pick and choose the one with the tone required for the scene.

Not to mention CGI characters like that, usually require someone to mo-cap it, and he could have done that as well, in addition to maybe using his face for the base model of groot's
