The Green Bay Packers were founded in 1919 by Curly Lambeau and George Calhoun, they were later entered into the NFL 2 years later. The Green Bay Packers are the only National Football League franchise to be owned by a city, in fact they're the only TOP TIER NON MINOR league sports franchise to be owned by a city in the USA, no other team can say that.

Because the Packers are the 2nd oldest franchise in the NFL (only behind the Chicago Bears) they have quite the history. They have the 2nd most hall of fame players, the most NFL Championships including prior to the Super Bowl era and afterwards with a total of 13, as well as 3 of the best Quarterbacks to ever play the game. Bart Starr, Brett Favre, and currently, Aaron Rodgers.

Despite being based in a city of only 100k people (not including the whole county's population) and having the smallest market in the NFL. The Packers have one of the largest current NFL stadiums with Lambeau Field. At 80k capacity, despite the size the stadium still gets filled up! It's also the 2nd oldest opening on September of 1957 originally as New City Stadium. After Curly's death, the stadium was renamed in his honor.

The Packers also have some of the oldest rivalries in sports, including the Bears, with an alltime record of 93-92-6 barely held by the Bears including playoffs. Other rivalries include the Lions and Vikings with the Packers leading in those 2 rivalries.

Wanna know where Cheesehead came from? It was originally worn by a Chicago White Sox fan as an insult towards Wisconsinites at a Brewer game in the early 1990's. The fans took the cheeseheads for themselves and made it a new Packer tradition to wear cheese on their heads at every Packer, Brewer, Buck, and sometimes even Badger games.

Another great packer tradition is the Lambeau Leap, after every touchdown scored at Lambeau Field, players will take the opportunity to connect with the fans with a leap to the stands! It all started by this gentleman right here, during an early 1990's ball game, a defensive linemen named Reggie White lateraled the ball to Leroy Butler, who scored a touchdown on that play, and immediately jumped in the stands. Many WR's have gone on to master the leap, and sometimes opposing players will do it if they find their own fans, and we even had former rivals jump for us as packers! proving that traditions can be started at any time!

Speaking of championships, the Packers are the only NFL team to win 3 consecutive NFL championships, and they did it twice. Once under Lambeau, and again under Vince Lombardi. They also won the 1st 2 Super Bowls, first against the Chiefs, and then the Raiders. They would not win titles again until Super Bowl 31, and most recently 45 under Aaron Rodgers.

Between 1992-2013, the Green Bay Packers had only 3 different starting Quarterbacks. Brett Favre, Aaron Rodgers, and Matt Flynn for 2 games all started in that span. At the same time, the Chicago Bears in that span had 30+ different starting quarterbacks, and don't even get me started on how many QB's other teams had in that span! 2013-2014 was the first time since 1992 that we lost our QB for an extended period of time, and resorted to 3 different starters in Flynn, Scott Tolzien, and Seneca Wallace. I'd say the Packers are blessed when it comes to good players.

The Packers would finish 8-8 every year if they had to play Pittsburgh, Baltimore and Cincinnati twice annually.

>implying that the Ravens don't have a shaky defense right now
>implying the Steelers aren't getting old
>implying the Bengals won't play us on primetime
>implying your Browns will ever draft a capable player.

What happened in Super Bowl 32?....ouch....

yeah Elway worked some magic. it's our only Super Bowl loss, no shame though, I mean we made it to the Super Bowl that's an accomplishment on its own.

I only bring it up because, as a Bronco fan, we had a hell of a team back then. Elway and TD, a top 5 QB/RB pairing. In my opinion.

my favorite games to this day are Super Bowls 31 and 45 and last season on Week 10 we destroyed the Bears 55-14, that last one was so ******* glorious...

I live in Madison and have to deal with the drunk college pricks. All of their college teams are refereed to as The Badgers. I never know which sport is being played and they name every business after the badgers. I miss NY.

we have some businesses ourselves here that start with Badger something. it's nuts. our state jumps around for the Badgers.

ever wonder why we're called the Badger State?

cool comp broh. one fact you got wrong is that the packers aren't owned by the city of green bay. its owned by a bunch of people with stock in the team franchise, most of whom, live in green bay.
User avatar #17 to #16 - saltyfries [OP](10/06/2015) [-]
yeah over 300k people, but technically it's still owned by the City. I live here, we know this. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Green_Bay_Packers,_Inc.

But the Cardinals are the oldest football team...
User avatar #15 to #14 - saltyfries [OP](10/06/2015) [-]
ok I'll give you that one, Cards were founded in 1898 in Chicago and at the same time as the Bears in 1920 moved to the NFL, Packers a year later, so I was partly right.
