a bunch of congressmen were waiting for them and moved the barricades out of their way. Nothing was torn down at all.

The government shutdown is such ******** . Shutting down everything that the public uses while keeping useless amenities, squeezing down just to make the public hurt so that they can say "Oh no look we need all this spending" When they're actually spending more money on some things just to hire security so they can shut them down.

Honestly if I was a retired vet I would rather keep meals on wheels and benefits than access to a memorial during the shutdown.

The government shutdown is such a bullcrap. They are intentionally shutting down these public areas wich has nothing to do with them and the official websites wich is automated and already payed for as well as the memorials.
They just want to make it shutdown look worse that it really is.
Not to mention the the day before the shutdown the military spent 5 TRILLION on spying equipment and weapons.

Of all they days they could choose to visit the memorial, it had to be that one.

Honor Flight Network, the non-profit org that got these 100-some veterans from Mississippi to DC, had planned this trip for them for a long, long time, before the idiots shut down the government. Most of these aging men weren't going to get another chance to see their memorial. These men aren't in good health, many of them need major assistance and live in nursing homes. It's not like they could just decide to come on another day. Moving this many elderly people takes careful planning, a lot of time, and a lot of resources.

Barricades might not stop them, but it looks like the police will.

most of them will probly die before the government shutdown is over and done with
may as well let them walk around remembering fighting in a war that spawned great
video games we all enjoyed, eh.
