Research into life-threatening diseases and other areas will stop, and new patients won’t be accepted into clinical trials at the National Institutes of Health.

Work to protect consumers, ranging from child product safety to financial security to the safety of hazardous waste facilities, will cease. The EPA will halt non-essential inspections of chemical facilities and drinking water systems.

NASA is an essential organization. They still operate. So does the military. It's just that none of them are getting paid.

YOU DO REALIZE THEY DID NOT SHUT DOWN MISSION CONTROL. NOT TO MENTION IT THE INTERNATIONAL ******* SPACE STATION THE U.S. RUSSIA, CANADA, JAPAN, AND THE ******* EUROPEAN SPACE AGENCY ARE ALL INVOLVED. DO YOU REALLY THINK NASA IS THAT ******* STUPID? DO YOU REALLY THINK THEY WOULD LEAVE STILL HAVING PEOPLE UP THERE. THE ENTIRE FBI WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO TAKE THOSE GUYS OUT OF MISSION CONTROL.

Our people (Roscosmos/Energia) take NASA to space with them. Then they return with our people in the Soyuz they went up in. NASA only handles training and future exploration at this point

The space station ground crew is basically the only part of NASA still running right now
