******* hell, dying in a car crash seems like a horrible way to go

Also at first I thought the left was the bad one because of how badly the car got ******

I almost died 2 times lol

actually, most modern cars are made so that the front will get smashed and act as a cushion to minimize the sudden force the cars occupants are subjected to to maximize their chance of survival
User avatar #27 to #12 - cdm ONLINE (11/01/2015) [-]
However! This also makes them more prone to entrapping victims or causing compartmentalization injuries due to crushing forces. Still, it's generally a good thing.

I'd rather take whatever those words mean than death. Though.

You ever see something on the news or TV where someone got into a bad accident and they can't get out of the wrecked car, which usually leads to firefighters having to get them the 'jaws of life'? That's entrapment.
It's especially problematic if a fire is ignited somewhere in the car and it spreads all around, because now your survival of the impact simply means you're roasting to death unless someone can break you out and save you in time.

There's still cases of accidents where the design can lead to death, even some (though very few) that might lead to death where without the design there would be survival, but in general it is considered an absolute improvement for a reason. Kind of like how seatbelts ultimately save more lives, but there are cases where someone will be trapped within the locked seatbelt, or the seatbelt strangled them when the car was displaced a certain way due to the accident.
User avatar #55 to #54 - cdm ONLINE (11/01/2015) [-]
Basically, entrapment means while people are usually not as badly hurt in the crash, it can take longer to get them out, and longer to get them to a proper hospital. Generally, though, the good outweighs the bad.

The real problem's compartmentalization injuries, when some part of the body gets pinched by things folding in on it, letting blood pool. Especially in the legs. Er... It's a bit more complicated. If you want to know more about it, www.webmd.com/pain-management/guide/compartment-syndrome-causes-treatments

Still, overall, the fold-in design is sater.

doesn't help when the front doesn't get touched and the only contact is with the windscreen. Saw an accident just the other day some dude's car went straight into the back of a truck...guess it didn't have a good guard because he was 100% ****** .

No, in the left you're just injured.
User avatar #3 to #1 - wrinklynewt (10/31/2015) [-]
not really
the one on the left does far more damage to the engine, but stops before it reaches the driver
dunno the damage to your legs, but for the one on the right your head is being smashed in
User avatar #8 to #3 - vorarephilia (10/31/2015) [-]
but who needs a head? peanut seems to be doing just fine without one.
User avatar #30 to #8 - norrisblade (11/01/2015) [-]

never cars are desinged so tht the engine block will be squsihed out to the side, you should fine with no major injuries on the left
User avatar #43 to #17 - barakakaka (11/01/2015) [-]
>>#3

Not really to the side, the engine just drops down so that it doesn't hurt either of the passengers.

Ooohh... That was the good one.

User avatar #23 to #7 - reaperslayer (11/01/2015) [-]
i don't think the wheel is white, i think it's just got something covering the outside of it, not sure.

but also notice the first car has a sticker on that wheel's rim and not the second car.
User avatar #24 to #23 - reaperslayer (11/01/2015) [-]
maybe it is a white wheel, too tired to really tell, but dat sticker doe.

also reasoning from the covering wheel in white substance is due to the fact the rim looks duller in the first one than the second one.

but the first one turned, the second one stayed in it's original forward position so it could be lighting.
User avatar #39 to #7 - masterjogi ONLINE (11/01/2015) [-]
You can see the damage on a white wheel better, the right one doesn't really have wheel damage.

User avatar #56 - linkeron (11/01/2015) [-]
Congratulations Evilhomer, you just saved lives.

A bit of context, I drive a truck for a living, the kind that hauls trailers like the one above. I just thought that the tail bar was for getting in and out of the trailer (Thanks inadequate training). Holy **** was I wrong.

I'm about to start buying my own trucks and trailers, and hiring folks to drive them as well as support staff. I haven't yet actually bought anything, but now that I've seen this I'm going to make damn sure my trailers' tail bars are up to snuff. No cheap ass trailers from the 80's for my company, **** that. Not worth it.

brilliant the focus is stopping momentum not preserving the car
User avatar #64 to #61 - captainprincess ONLINE (11/01/2015) [-]
that's why cars have crumlpezones

mostly to preserve the driver

cars are replacable
#68 to #64 - cirononsappi (11/01/2015) [-]
that's ******** man. drivers are replaceable

I had an accident with a truck because - guess what - my driver was distracted and didn't notice that the truck before us was braking.

Noone is giving back my old car, it was a ******* pussy magnet, and now?
I had to buy a new car because of him, and then i had to find another driver anyway.
User avatar #69 to #68 - captainprincess ONLINE (11/01/2015) [-]
Yeah ok
as a job drivers are replaceable
But drivers are people and people dying is worse than a totaled car
User avatar #79 to #69 - heartlessrobot (11/01/2015) [-]
Depends on the person and the car, really.
User avatar #80 to #79 - captainprincess ONLINE (11/01/2015) [-]
I would say not at all
but that's me
I tend to lean towards any and all people matter more than any kind of car
User avatar #81 to #80 - heartlessrobot (11/01/2015) [-]
I'd rather lose one of the Kardashians if it meant a 1913 Rolls Royce Silver Ghost didn't get totaled, but I'll take, say, the Average person over any Volvo.
User avatar #82 to #81 - captainprincess ONLINE (11/01/2015) [-]
Yeah
Sure

I'll not make that bet but that's because I don't ever want to bet on a simple mechanical machine over an actual person, no matter who

I'd rather all kardashians live to old age at the cost of all the cars on the planet for now and forever, than bring myself to accepting someone's death as something that's ok because a cool car exists
#70 to #69 - cirononsappi (11/01/2015) [-]
Who cares about him? He totaled my car, I broke some ribs and had a pneumotorax for his fault, and it was his fault anyway. A bad driver less. If he survived, he would be fired anyway.
User avatar #71 to #70 - captainprincess ONLINE (11/01/2015) [-]
He's a person
His life matters more than a car

Everything else is moot and you're absolutely right to feel about however you do

Hell even the above is arguable really
but imo
life > car

don't the dates on the trailers mean that the one on the left is from an older design, and that the one on the right is more modern?
