Good Soldier Story

Good Soldier Story: Hugh Thompson. A true American hero.

In case anyone is wondering or if you have already saw this yesterday, this was a post that I posted yesterday. Unfortunately it was flagged for "gore" by a moderator, so I had to post this again edited. This time I removed several pictures that contained "gore" and replaced them with more "politically correct" photos of the disaster. Oh well, the story counts more than the pictures I suppose...

War is hell.

I am so sick of seeing "American War Crime" posts, exaggerating at length about (often unsubstantiated) atrocities committed in the name of "democracy" and "freedom".

War. is. hell.

There are no good guys. There are no bad guys. The only good and humane action is to avoid war in the first place. After that there are only greater and lesser degrees of evil. Smaller and larger acts of human monstrosity.
But it is never black and white, and anyone telling you otherwise is selling you a work of fiction.

Families are bombed. Women are violated. Children are burned alive. We would all like to think that, given similar circumstances, we would take the moral high ground. We would be able to discern the line between right and wrong through the fog of war.
The truth of the matter is, most of us would sell our souls and do what ever it took just to survive. Never judge a man in a meat grinder. He lives by different rules. Because he has to.

Because war is hell.

In this hell, Thompson managed to save 11 people from brutal murder without killing anyone for it. No good guys? Suck my ass, sir.

Alright, thumb me down all you want. I think that this guy did good but he's still a traitor. When you are on the field, you're given orders and you follow them. There are plenty of people that have thought this over and then given the order for it. Being in the middle of the action, you cannot make the right call for this. Saving those 11 people might have caused 100s of other Vietnamese people to die and he would be completely unaware of it because it's not his place to know of it. Being in the army is a job, you are hired to follow orders not to do what you think is right.

You can deny unlawful orders bud. No one is a robot in the Army, Air Force, Marines, Navy or Coast Guard. What these Soldiers did was wrong. What the chopper pilot did was right, but his perspective was altered. He wasn't on the ground 24/7 he didn't sleep in dirt holes, he didn't experience what the infantry on the ground did. Those guys had all basically gone mad. While he was still very sane. No one starts out on deployment with the thought in mind about harming innocents or "civilians" but that shit can develop pretty damn quick, especially in guerrilla type warfare where most of the time you cant tell between civilian or militant until they are shooting at you.

This is one of the reasons why I find humans interesting. When one person acts on good grounds while he or she is still alive, the following person will be ignored, discriminated, and/or hated. However, as the person dies all of humanity turns 180 degrees and sees him/her as a hero. Have you ever thought if this was one of the reasons why more people are committing suicide nowadays?

But the Viet Cong would use children as soldiers.
I'm not saying the killing of kids is okay, but really, that's what happened.
This post is entirely factual and holds no opinion of my own so don't thumb me up either way, I'm just letting you guys know.

Those killings were somewhat justified, the fighters were hiding amonst the civilians.

I'm sure several of the toddlers that died were generals in disguise. Those gooks are so short you cannot be sure, right?

I took quick look through the comments section before I posted this and I was frankly shocked to see the word "justified" come up more than once.

My personal favourite was Dwarf's remark that "they were following orders". Does the Nuremberg Defence ring any bells?

And as for all this nonsense (and I do mean nonsense) about human shields being used, if you knew anything about anything then it might cross your mind that International Law forbids the attack of a target in which human shields are being used. You also appear to have missed the "do what you want with the hostages" part.

Yes, it is completely true that not all veterans are monsters or even bad people but that isn't a defence against the fact that the United States military (and its allies) is and was filled with war criminals, collaborators, and other scum.

if i was him, i would have murdered every single american soldier there. i would throw their corpses into piles of animal shit and then i would set them on fire.
murder itself is a horrible act, but rape and child molestation are UNFORGIVABLE.

If you read the description, this poster was me. It was flagged so I had to edit out some of the details to keep it clean (for the most part).
