I was stationed in Italy for my first tour of duty, I had just turned 18, the best advice I can give you, is stay open to new experiences! Don't be afraid to try new things, if you're interested, and willing most locals will treat you very well and be happy to help with your transition into their culture.

I work/live in a foreign country, and I'd say don't be disappointed when things aren't like they are at home is a pretty big thing to keep in mind. You're going to meet a lot of new people and experience a very different way of life. Be friendly, but not tourist-y (tourists tend to get ****** over a lot of the time).
Explore around where you now live/work (ie. get the **** off funnyjunk once in a while).
Make stories because we're all stories in the end... just make it a good one, eh?
