because in order to lead a country, you need to have the people at your side
adolf didn't commit a coup, he was elected.
he was chosen by the german people.
the german people supported him, even though they probably didn't support the consentration camps, and the murder of all jews, they did support throwing out the jews, they did support him leading the country
and they did support hitler.
the german people were responsible, as the american people are responsible for the wards of it's country.

You don't like the current government? Get in league with the neonazis, the rednecks who want Obama lynched, the extremists, get in touch with those who would bring America down.

And you would have to fight like they do in the middle east; use people as meat shields, hide among the civilians. Ensure that for each one of you that gets killed by the military causes dozens of civi deaths by the military.
The people already dislike when civilians get killed in middle east, imagine how they would react when american civvies die. And then you have to factor in how much of the military would even do things that would likely lead to the death of many american citizens.

Would it be easy? No.
Would it be likely to succeed? No.
Would you likely live very long? No.
But the option is always there.

That's why Americans have to vote smarter than they are now, and engage themselves in politics much more. People tend to vote with their gut and that's a problem. I know this because the situation is starting to be the same in Sweden right now; people no longer pay attention to what different parties say or stand for, but instead vote out of tradition and gut feeling.

I would like Americans to vote smarter. They should vote outside of a major political party. But there's nothing the few of us who do vote outside of those parties can't do. It's a country of sheep, they vote for which Republican or Democrat looks the least shady.

you are now aware that the first people dieing in the KZs were no jews but the political opposition. there was basically a civil war going on in germany between the nazi party and the communists and the democratic center was crushed by those fights. in the end it were only the social democrats who could stand up for the republic after the communists were arrested. Several thousands of them were arrested after the "ermächtigungsgesetz" (look up Otto Wels for further information). there was a famous saying of a social democrat(wehner i think), who said that the socialdemocratic party was the only party, who hadn't be so ashamed of its past, that it had to change its name. well anyway. after the ermächtigungsgesetz the opposition split into those who broke under the pressure, those who went to exile or fight in the spanish civil war and those who remained as a marginalized and hunted opposition.

Not exactly, the German people were given the promise of a stronger Germany, fed a healthy dose of nationalism and then Hitler came through with his promises why wouldn't you follow him, he brought Germany to prosperity in the late 30's and very very early 40's he never outright said to annihilate any race he did express his distaste for them and said they would be deported but most Germans did not know about the concentration camps, and mass killings. What we need to understand about authoritarian Germany is if you didn't support Hitler you died the first ones killed were the moderates its in the UN's 8 stages of genocide and I quote

"Extremists drive the groups apart. Hate groups broadcast polarizing propaganda. Laws may forbid intermarriage or social interaction. Extremist terrorism targets moderates, intimidating and silencing the center."

It's an us them you either join or you die and fear is the most powerful emotion.

The point is that there wasn't that many black people in Germany at that time. Any other of the peoples Hitler harmed, were, to some degree, compensated. Gays weren't just killed, locked away or in some other way wronged in Germany, for example look up on Alan Turing, as well as any other people that were considere to be disabled.

You're mostly correct. However, it's really important to mention that only some of the German people supported him. My great-grandfather was a German citizen, and he was adamantly opposed to Hitler and his German Worker's Party. He emigrated to the U.S. around 1930, luckily.

Hitler was popular because he was a charismatic man, a very good public speaker, and he had solid plans for rescuing the country from destitution, all while supporting national pride. The German people voted him in for these reasons, NOT because of his extremist views. His campaigns were actually backed by Jewish bankers.

There was an experiment done in a US school called The Third Wave. A teacher started a facist group in one of his classes. This was in 1967, in Palo Alto, that's got to be the furthest you can get from a society that would tend toward facism, but it still worked. There's a German film about it.

Don't be so stupid as to think the German people caused this, they were scared, poor and manipulated.

First, Hitler was never elected. He ran in two national elections in 1932. In the first, he got 30 percent of the vote, and no one got a majority. In the resulting runoff election, he increased his votes to 37 percent, while his opponent, World War I hero Field Marshall Hindenburg, got a majority. And since the Nazi party won 230 seats out of 608 in the Reichstag, it did not have the majority to make Hitler Chancellor.

So how did this happen? By backroom backstabbing, double-crossing, threats, and promises, including among former Chancellor Franz von Papen, present Chancellor Lieutenant General Kurt von Schleicher, and the elected President Hindenburg. Their maneuvering, a rumor of a threatened military coup, and the urging von Papen, who had entered into a secret alliance with Hitler to get supporters into Cabinet positions, finally persuaded Hindenburg to reluctantly appoint that “little corporeal” Hitler chancellor. Many involved in this intrigue, including von Papen, thought that this would bring Hitler under their control. They thought they could control Hitler. The world might've been destroyed altogether. The relation between the US and the USSR was becoming more grim before WW2, but they chose not to attack each other due to the threat from Germany. It wasn't long after the war before both sides had nuclear weapons, and thus afraid of a direct confrontation.

Now let's imagine no Nazi Germany. They could wage war on each other with no atomic threat, only to have it invented a few years later, thus utilizing them to the max.

Eeeeeh, I'm not sure that's how it would go down. First of all, the inspiration behind the atomic weapons was Einstein, who was a German Jew displaced by the holocaust. Secondly, the USA developed their atomic weapons WAY earlier than the USSR, and it was only through the use of spies that the USSR was even able to create theirs. But, by the time in this theoretical instance, America (if the managed to develop their bombs) would have already destroyed much of Russia.

He wasn't the inspiration, just a big contributor. The US was working on atomic bombs before the war even started. And the Soviets built their first bomb in 1949, 4 years after the American one. Not WAY later. The early atomic bombs were also hardly noticable compared to the massive bombs the Russians developed, so no. They also didn't have missiles before the Russians got everything sorted out, and I doubt they'd be able to attack Russia by airdrop planes.

Germany (and most of Europe, for that matter) was in a ****** state after WWI that got inconceivably worse during the depression. The people were vulnerable and desperate, and some sort of maniac would have come to power regardless. Teachers don't know anything about the internet, and if you don't think Wikipedia is, you don't either.

There was a time when Wikipedia could be changed by anyone and was made very inaccurate, but now it requires trust and citations to make an influential article.

Tell that to the wall of citations at the bottom of nearly every article.

Actually it was the Jews that were screwing Germany, before the Jews got to Germany other countries had kicked them out or not accepted them at all, he didn't want to kill Jews, he was just planning on getting them out of the country they were destroying it all went to hell when enemy countries started cutting their way to get resources.

What? The Jews werent some roving gang of economy destroyers. The ones in Germany were Germans. Just like any other Germans.

And yes, he did plan on killing them. It was outlined in the Hunger Plan that Jews, Russians and Eastern Europeans would be killed in death and work camps, their assets taken and their land seized to be used by German families to feed Germany's horribly inefficient system of food production. He wanted to kill them from the moment he gained power. It was the people who generally just wanted them kicked out.

Actually, he didnt. He took credit for the economic genius of the Minister of Economics who had done wonders to help the German economy in the years before Hitler's rise. He then sacked him when he told Hitler his spending was screwing people over in the long run.

Hitler's own ideas worked, but we're only short term. The building of the Autobahn, and more importantly his massive re-armament program, created jobs and made people happy.

He also spent money that Germany didnt actually have to build things they couldnt afford. Everything he spent they would eventually need to pay back, and they would never be able This was actually a major contributor to the devastation that East Germany had to crawl up from after the War. Other than the part where they lost, every major industry was destroyed and their homes were burning ruins.
