I think that's ******** . In important things like this Space programs, military operations etc. Americans use metric.

Unfortunately, it really did happen (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mars_Climate_Orbiter)

'blaming America for the problem'

I bet it'll be our fault when Putin invades you, too.
#37 to #24 - mrmcput ONLINE (07/28/2014) [-]
He meant that Putin would be invading another country. Nobody could successfully invade the US. Too many trigger happy rednecks armed with military grade firepower.

If you seriously call yourself a scientist or engineer and you still use the imperial system of measurement than you are dunce.

Metric system best system

imperial* it isn't called standard
User avatar #59 - burdenedsoul ONLINE (07/28/2014) [+] (4 replies)
people in the comments arguing about which system is better, imperial or metric, when the real issue here is that a group of scientists, our greatest hope for getting off this slag heap we call a planet, wasted $125 million because they didn't make sure they all used the same system

FFS! in my maths class we were ALWAYS told at least 5 times in every single lesson to write down the units of measurement.
from year 7 (11 years old) to year 12 (16 years old) until it was hammered into tthe thick, retarded skulls of the idiots who put literally no effort into their work and getting high scores.
i worked my ******* ass off to learn as much as i could to the point where it was affecting my already-poor health and those ************* got the same or better score than me.

If i remember, it was a collaboration between NASA and the European space agency. And they both new that the Europe would use the Metric system and Nasa te imperial. but their tolerances were different so it didn't fit.

What the **** kind of scientist (in any field) uses the imperial system? I'm American, and in every science class I've ever been in since grade school I used the metric system.
User avatar #106 to #93 - Greevon (07/28/2014) [-]
You're American? What are you doing, man? Get to bed! (I don't know where in America you are, but it's 3:30 AM here and you can't be far off.)

I love how when the US changes something about itself that was influenced by other countries, people talk **** about it. But if they don't change something and the other countries do, people still talk **** about it.

This article claims the fault goes to the English.

www.cnn.com/TECH/space/9909/30/mars.metric.02/
User avatar #102 to #99 - Greevon (07/28/2014) [-]
Clearly neither of you read the article. It refers to the Imperial system as "English measurements" but it at no point claims Lockheed Martin is an English company. In addition, near the end of the article it points out how this could have been avoided if America only used the metric system. I disagree with that point as we only use Imperial measurements in casual situations (except for these ******** apparently) but, the point remains.

How did they get all the way to the "flying in space" part of the expedition when they realized half the staff was counting the Kilometers off earth and the other were using Miles... >_>

Yes, clearly this is America's fault and no the fault of all parties involved
User avatar #63 to #60 - ChuckNorrisVsMRT ONLINE (07/28/2014) [-]
There are literally 2 other countries in the world that use the imperial system. That being said it's obviously no particular parties "fault" but obviously america is going to be brought up.
User avatar #25 - nigalthornberry ONLINE (07/28/2014) [+] (4 replies)
I thought we used the systems half and half
Imperial for Basic life stuff
Metric for Scientific stuff
#137 - anonymous (07/28/2014) [-]
Another reason why we should all use the Metric system...

...I love you...

I seriously don't see the ******* need to spend near billions on space programs when we don't even understand 25% of our own oceans/there are places in Earth that are completely unexplored on land. Study **** close to home, then branch out.
User avatar #129 - heretofuckshitup ONLINE (07/28/2014) [-]
it's not like nasa is a global space program. it's purely an american big brother administration so why are we getting **** for using imperial. **** metric how bout that
User avatar #45 - mynameisdenis (07/28/2014) [-]
you can convert those to each other, not an issue
