When I was still singing, I had a 4 octave range, but it started at low bass and went through high tenor. I couldn't hope to hit those high notes in a million years.
This was a masterful performance.

if I recall correctly, it's a two-part thing.
1) they don't want to judge the contestants on anything but their voice, so they don't see said contestant until they've made a decision
2) if they decide they like the contestant, they hit the button, turning them round.

whatsnottaken (12/04/2015) [-] In addition to the other responses, the judges also have a limited amount of people they are allowed to have on their "team" and if they reach that number they're buttons are essentially turned off. at least as far as I'm aware

Once you press your button you are then saying ''i want to coach this person in the competition''. So often a judge won't press a button even if the person is good, as they don't feel they have the skill required to coach the persons singing style.
At least, thats the jist of it

Verdi is on par with Mozart (almost), Mendelssohn and Schubert in ingenuity of writing imo, probably the best Italian. Wagner is long-winded but his explorations in tonality were earthshattering on par with Beethoven. R Strauss ameliorated some of Wagner's innovation with more concise music imo.
Ravel, however is my favorite:

The actual performer is, if I'm not mistaken, Vitas (the strange Ukranian cosmonaut dude "ah ah ah"), and he does a ******* killer falsetto. So she was just emulating that song.
But let's not get ahead of ourselves - these "talent shows" are nothing more than entertainment for the lower class. Anyone worth their salt knows musicianship is about dedication, talent, practice, and setting. A good writer can have a **** performance and a practiced performer can be **** at composing. Any self-respecting musician would not enter a talent show unless trying to do some edgy art thing.
But let's not get ahead of ourselves - these "talent shows" are nothing more than entertainment for the lower class. Anyone worth their salt knows musicianship is about dedication, talent, practice, and setting. A good writer can have a **** performance and a practiced performer can be **** at composing.
