Is that a real comic or a joke? Because if its real, it seems to imply that Alfred would become a mass-murdering criminal, just to make Bruce happy. Thats pretty disturbing.

In "Whatever Happened To The Caped Crusader," Batman's spirit attends his own funeral being held in Crime Alley and attended by his friends and foes. It's a surreal scene because each character is telling their own stories about how Batman died. Alfred's story reveals how Batman's entire Rogue's Gallery was formed by Alfred in order to give Batman the challenges he needed to fight crime, with Alfred playing the role of Batman's arch nemesis. At the same time Alfred is telling the story, Batman can see Joker in the audience.

Alternate universe, Batman becomes Batman, but none of his Rogues Gallery even exist, so Alfred decides to start the Rogues Gallery by becoming the Joker, and eventually gets other people to act like the other villains. Eventually, Enigma got so into his Riddler persona, it ends up driving him insane, and Batman deduces that Alfred is the Joker. I don't remember what happens after that.

From just that one page it's not that Alfred is aware that they're missing but rather he's saying without a proper rival/enemy batman will never truly become what he needs to be.
Basically if you never fight good/tough opponents you'll never get real skills or worse you'll just become complacent and weak.

Its from Detective comics 853 Whatever happened to the Caped Crusader. Batman is watching his own funeral and everyone is telling stories. This is apart of Alfred's story about how he and his acting buddies put on a charade and pretended to be villains so Bruce could feel important and cope with life as Batman.

Batmans' spirit is attending his own funeral, and all of his friends and foes are attending and telling stories about their relationship to Batman. It's very surreal, Alfred is telling this story, but Batman can clearly see Joker in the audience as Alfred talks.

Batman #686! There's actually two, with Detective Comics #853 picking up where Batman #686 left off. Just so you know, it's not cannon. It would make far too many people sad, and even in the Dark Age of Comic Books, no one touches Alfred. Hope I helped! Cheers!

Well, that's one of many stories Joker has created for himself. As he also stated in Killing Joke, "If I'm going to have a backstory, I prefer it to be multiple choice."

His Villains Month issue told another story about his abusive aunt. I think Joker is too much defined by what he is now to ever have a truly fitting backstory.

I agree, not sure if you've read Death of the Family because I'm about to talk about the ending, so I'll put it in a spoiler: At the end when Batman is holding him over the edge of a cliff telling him that he knows who he is, and just as he's about to say it the Joker forces Batman to drop him, I personally think the Joker doesn't even remember it him self and doesn't want to remember lest it actually bring back some of his sanity by remembering he used to be just like everyone else

I did read it, and in my opinion it's a better Joker story than Killing Joke. And I'm not sure if Batman was bluffing or not. I lean towards bluffing, since Joker was bluffing about knowing the identities of the Bat Family.

I'm not so sure, I think he may have actually figured it out, after all if I remember correctly, wasn't there a scene somewhere showing that the Joker knows that Bruce Wayne is Batman, and that he just doesn't care? I don't think it's too farfetched to assume that Bats really does know who he is, too...But that's what makes their relationship so interesting at the same time, all the guessing and what-ifs
