Well, we normally separate wolves from dogs, thinking wolves are vicious, wild animals and dogs are your tame best friends. This kinda puts the realization out there that dogs descended from wolves and are still very similar to them.

I'm fairly sure it's WORSE for purebreds. It's a genetic trait about as common as 1 in five german shepherds, which is a higher percentage than most other breeds as far as I know. It's genetic, so the more purebreds are bred together the more prevalent it will be, and the more diverse a selection of breeds a mutt has, the less likely it will be to have it. I hope I worded that in a way that isn't hard to read. : /
From what I learned in my Bio 101 class dogs and wolves come from the same common ancestors and dogs did not evolve from wolves. Same with monkeys and humans
