But when theory meets the real world the phrase "close enough for all intents and purposes" comes into play for asymptotes and sometimes for parallel lines.

This statement brought to you by engineering, a science based on curve fits and empirical data.

My math teacher told me that parallel lines actually meet in infinity, which was somehow poven.
Don't ask me how or why.

Maths is easy if it's explained to you in a way you can understand. It doesn't matter how complicated it gets, if you understand little pieces, step by step, you'll get it. You just need background knowledge.

CompSci Major here. Math morphs. From easy Algebra, to intermediate Trigonometry, to hard Calculus, to whatever the **** Discrete Math is. Math gets very hard as it goes.
#46 to #15 - anon (05/19/2014) [-]
Neither calculus or discrete math is hard either.
#25 to #15 - anon (05/19/2014) [-]
Calc wasn't hard. I would have put that one at intermediate and I haven't even had gotten to the next levels yet.
User avatar #26 to #25 - RiflemanFunny (05/19/2014) [-]
Calculus gets hard because there is like 3 damn classes of it.
User avatar #37 to #26 - tealcanaan (05/19/2014) [-]
Calc 2 was my hardest math class, but still wasn't too bad. I'm ME by the way, although some people thought Differential Equations was hard for some reason.

Well calc isn't too hard either. I got through it with a 95 and never once studied...or did the homework assigned (it was never graded so I didn't see the need to waste my time on it).
User avatar #50 to #27 - yetaxaa (05/19/2014) [-]
Probably because you're a natural.
But for people whose minds don't work that way it can be REALLY hard and confusing.
User avatar #65 to #50 - mylazy (05/19/2014) [-]
Personally I think those people have an advantage. They are pushed into learning math an all that, but will likely have another skill in of which they are as good as I am in math. Then I get pushed into learning all the things that I am, as you put it, a natural at, and never go to learn anything outside of that. So whereas I am only good at what I was predestined to be good at, those people can do what I am good at as well as their own separate thing.
User avatar #54 to #24 - longboarders (05/19/2014) [-]
Dude, are you in the eighth grade or something? You make it sound like honours is harder than traditional. Calculus isn't that hard. Algebra and some trigonometry is the hardest part of it. The calculus itself isn't hard at all.

we don't need this advanced math ******** . I'm an IT helpdesk guy. I literally have no reason to know trigonometry. why don't they teach us the math that we actually NEED to know, like balancing a check book, or how to do time zone conversions? the American schooling system is ****** .
User avatar #64 to #62 - emiyashirou (05/19/2014) [-]
Time zone conversions are easy as hell, it's just plussing and minussing. Balancing a cheque book is accounting (To be technical, it's bookkeeping), not maths.

I love those kind of jokes/moments that makes a family film an actual "family" film in that they make kids and adults laugh/cry/etc.

This movie and Over the Hedge were the best at that.

When I was taking the compass test I had question like this:
If Bob has one bag of candy and gives Slut candy with a ratio of 1 to 1, and Slut gives Dude candy of ratio of 2:1, 2 parts Slut and 1 Part Dude,
what is the diameter of the sun?

Just FYI this is a smartass response and not meant to question the accuracy of your statement.

Mike is playing dumb so he doesn't get shanked by Randall for knowing what he's plotting. Randall is being a ******** and incriminating himself to his only witness.
