Homestuck is a webcomic. It tells the story of a 13y/o boy who eagerly awaits a new video game for his birthday. When playing the game, he and his pals are sucked into a different dimension, and told to do some quests, save some people, develop powers and explore planets built around them (Hobbies, fears, themes, etc)
It's very word heavy. Most of the dialogue isn't in the traditional Speech Bubble format, but instead takes place in a Chat-room style setup below each image. Most images are 1-2 second looping gifs. (Pic related, a single page from a boss-fight)
It's also got a large cast. The initial 4 humans and their direct relatives are the ones we start with, but at this point the Cast features at least 3 separate species of aliens, one of which presents 2 dozen characters for our enjoyment.
Said group is the reason Homestuck is disliked in many places. You see, the aliens are Bisexual. This made Tumblr so excited they basically monopolized the story and have served as the target audience ever since. Ask any Tumblr what Zork, EarthBound or Myst is, and you'll get nothing but blank stares, even though these games served as the inspiration for the webcomic itself. Now all it deals with is shipping and relationship fights, when we should be spending more time exploring the mechanics that drive the story! When you're about to get a cool explanation on a game mechanic and some romance-subplot takes over, then you will know true pain.
I still have no idea where I stand with Meulin. Part of me wants to call her stupid for letting Kurloz seemingly control her but on the other hand, part of me likes her for forgiving him for what could possibly be deemed a horrible and unforgivable act.
Because some parts of it are genuinely terrible?
Ok, so you're letting one of two things influence you here.
1. You have seen the fandom and do not like them. Ok, fair enough, but there are plenty of cringe LoTR fans, so you can't really judge the work on the fans alone.
2. You are letting others form an opinion for you, and then joining them. GG NO RE, I can't fight a community that tells me my thing sucks, cuz those kind of people are just there to fling **** at you.
You can read it here, if you feel like it. (Yes, it is a webcomic... thing. There are flash animations and game sections of it, as well as other interactive things thrown in.) www.mspaintadventures.com/
The Mayor is the main charecter, do not be fooled. Anything un-related to The Mayor and his immediate circle of friends is basically filler.
I read a bit of Homestuck but only got to the part where he had a pokemon battle with cake or whatever. At what point do they get to pale devil people and how did it get to that point?
Pale Devil people come WAAAAAY later. You basically read about 2% of Homestuck.
Homestuck tells the story of a young boy celebrating his birthday. He eagerly awaits a video game so he can play with his 3 friends. When the game comes, it causes loads of shenanigans, which end up dragging Boy and co into an alternate dimension. There, they must battle monsters, attain powers, complete quests and explore planets based around them (interests, powers, fears, etc) in the hope of finishing the game that they started.
Slowly, they (and the reader) learn that this game of theirs is not the only one that has been, is being, or will be played. Each game is similar (quests, powers) but stylized to the people playing it. (one group was divided in 2 to compete against each other)
One of these alternate groups, who have finished their game mere hours before our heroes start, message them with intention to harass and mock. These are the Pale Demon people, and at this point the story diverts to their game, allowing us to learn about them and their culture.
Basically, everyone is racist, and the girl with her arms crossed is BEST WAIFU.
Report to the Deck, Brigand bananeurysm. We got loot to plunder and Vriska to praise. Anyone not mentioning how BEST GRILL she is at least thrice a day will be fed to Lord English.
Well whatdyaknow, a Mage! Mage of Breath myself, coming in from the long-ass one that has all the fan **** in it as well. (What the **** is a Chief of Stars?)
Space? Good with both technical and theoretical, low patience, tends to dip into fantasy a little, and motherly in many regards. Sounds about right? Paired with Mage, that puts you in as the sort of person who can't decide on really important choices, and when you DO choose, you almost immediately second-guess yourself. Mages are cool, but nobody but pages and princes get **** on like we do. >.> Worst part is, we do it to ourselves!
Yeah, I got Chief of Stars with that one once. Stick to canon, mate. That way, it's actually cool to know what Classpect you would theoretically get when the meteors start to drop.
**** , man. At least I got a canon aspect. The **** is "Stars" supposed to mean?
If I'm going with a canon class, it's gotta be either Mage or Seer. Seer of Mind would make me Terezi, and there are worse people to be.
Doesn't sound too similar to me, though.
Seers have knowledge of how things are likely to turn out given a specific action. That's me. People turn to me for advice, and, if they follow it, things usually go well. This would make sense for situations I've been in before, but 90% of the time, they're asking for advice on **** I've never dealt with, and it still goes well.
Mage of Breath?
... Would that be "using the windy thing to your advantage"? Because that's what it sounds like. I understand that it's a representation of the idea of "freedom" (usually freedom to move, act, and think how you want), but I'd expect it to pan out to full manipulation of the Breeze if it came up in Homestuck. No promises on any doomed timelines. That said, I'm not the type to resort to violence, except in retaliation or in extreme circumstances.
This is all guesswork, because Hussie prefers Shipping instead of explaining game mechanics.
Mages know a lot about their Aspect, and are pretty good at using it. However, Paradox Space always sets things up that their powers are always "Just Not Enough". So to crank out more, they need to overload themselves. A Mage of Breath would likely create storms so large that even they get blown around, or use their breathing as a focus point of their powers and have to basically cough up their lungs to get to the powerful attacks.
Freedom is indeed a big deal with Breath. Being allowed as much Freedom as you like sounds, and in some ways is, good! But to lazy, disinterested or disheartened people, it's very bad. They need guidelines!
Thanks, and at first I thought your horoscope was your patron troll. Cause I'm a Scorpio but my friend said I was wrong and it was something else, we did the thing and found out its still vriska. Vriska is love, vriska is life
i most definitely got my favorite aspect. i love all the technical spacey **** that comes with the aspect, its super fun to think about. plus i mean. red shoes. you cant ****** beat the red shoes
and my least favorite aspect is rage. mainly b/c the most we've seen its usefulness is only useful for ********** up
Space definitely fits you there, friend. Space is the MOST creative aspect, so you hating Rage (the 2nd most common aspect of destroyers, behind Time, of course) makes perfect sense.
lmaoooo
after that whole debacle in the treasure thing though it kinda helped my vrisjohn feelings go south tbh. i mean i liked it a bit before, but not that much. real **** though vriskan was my first ever homestuck ship
Well, befor i tell, yes i can already guess i am ****** with class and aspect, still role your Thing. Because i guess i rolled AGAIN as so often in life the ******* doom dices.
If you guys though bards of doom or an guarentee for an ****** up session:
your powers would be off the charts. You could toss enemies into black holes, would cause horroterrors to **** themselves at the mention of your name, and your God Tier could destroy IDEAS. Kill someone, and then erase the idea of them! They never existed at all! It would be pseudo retcon powers!
i can blow the wind around a bit tho, so were pretty evenly matched.
>>#18
sauce on those quizzes you took? Also, I always wondered what a Page of Rage would be like Like if they realize their power, and go ******* insane, and every time they die in that battle they just punch open a dream bubble and fly supersonic back to skaia
The next one is one I have NOT taken, because the first question asks me what gender I identify as, and not what gender I am, and if you're going to pander to crazy people I don't want you inside my head. zules.com/titletest/
This one is crazy in depth, and you actually need to take TWO tests to get your answer. Overall, you'd need to sink a good 30 min into this. Unfortunately, some of the answers are non-canon. (Chief of Stars, etc) thepageofhopes.tumblr.com/post/13517446964/homestuck-title-test
There are more, but you can always google around yourself. I took MANY HS aspect tests over the years, and since most return either Breath or Space, along with Bard or Mage, I kinda got to cherrypick.
>All these plebs getting Classpects already shown in comic.
Nah man, congrats. Analysis on which people to get to know better and stuff is always cool. "Choose your friends wisely!" is a pretty common saying, you know!
Normal. Because Hussie thinks Shipping is more important than game mechanics, a lot of the classes and aspects are unknown (Maid, Doom, etc) So different tests give different results. You got Mind on two different tests, so it's likely you are a Mind player. Your class is up to you though! What do you feel like?
Kind of makes me think about life though, how I've acted and everything
On one hand I'm terrified of what I've done and what if things could have been better, which is like the SoB
But on the other, I've always used my head to try to **** with people, but to help keep my friends stable, and help them through depression
I dont like this
and now I'm wondering what the **** a Bard of Blood would do
