You should all google "Rennet". It's an enzyme mixture in calves stomaches that solidifies milk, ie make it cheese. It is used in most cheese production and you have to kill the calf to harvest it.

Baby cows die for our cheese. Not that I'm complaining, I ******* love cheese.

Most renet today isn't produced that way anymore, it can be easily synthesised by using modified bacteria, most rennet in the US is produced that way, since frozen calf stomachs aren't exactly a cheap solution. Only some traditional cheese types in Europe are still being produced the old fashioned way though

Actually, they used to use a certain stomach bacteria from the cow in order to turn the milk into cheese. They did have to kill a cow to make cheese. These days the bacteria are probably grown for hygene reasons.
