isn't necessarily related to the roll. if you roll well to activate a button that actually causes something to explode, it doesn't stop it from causing something to explode.
if you do a strength check for kicking in a door and roll a nineteen the door is going to get kicked in but if theres a dragon on the other side you'll still be lubing up your butthole

so how does it work this game. can you literally say anything? or do you have choices. so you could say "i present my arse to him in the hopes he rapes me first"
and how do th numbers determine a seemingly random outcome
most things have what is called a difficulty rating or DC so say there is a wall you want to climb...the DC for that wall climg is let's say 12. If you roll a 12 or less you fail to climb the wall. These rolls are decided by a 20 decided dice.
rolling a 20 is a critical success. So you just climbed that wall and then some. A 1 is considered a critical failure....so...let's say you started climbing, and fell completely off the cliff and hurt yourself for x amount of damage
Not really, 1 and 20 are both also just succeses or fails. It's just that because they are extremes the DM tends to make them more hilarious than the others. If you barely pass the test he will say something like: "With a lot of effort and strain you manage to make the climb" It's all about story telling.
Any time you hear anything added, such as a description of the wall climb/fail. That's just the DM adding flavour text to help immerse the players. It's part of what makes the game so fun.
nah it's just a number check for this kinda stuff. The only time each number has it's own outcome is for when a game master is rolling for what random loot is awarded
