last episode's theme had some gibberish, turned out to be something being said backwards. it was the voice of matt groening saying "no no, you're watching this backwards!"

Okay, preparing for the downvotes. No museum is open on Holidays, new Years is counted as a holiday at most governmental buildings just to have a day off, so the joke of it is they broke in. Hence forth why they were the only people inside the building at the time

In the one where he is a millionaire they actually worked out the interest on 50 cents at the average rate for that time

Maybe one day, because leap years are not precise enough to compensate for the day being 23 hours and 56 minuttes, we will skip a day some day. Announce the whole world that we will go from 22. august to 24. august.
#47 to #45 - jvcjvc (12/29/2013) [-]
and then we would still keep the same weekdays - meaning that we will get weekend in shorter time

With the way our society is going... a head museum will be completely different... and not a place for children.

atleast on the iphone(not sure about other smart phones) you can scroll through years on your calender reall really fast, i made it to year 4127 in about 45 seconde
User avatar #39 to #30 - EnergizierAnon ONLINE (12/29/2013) [-]
well, 12 months x 1000 years = 12000 clicks of that arrow. so its close to that i would think.

What if they replaced Futurama with a show about some idiot who goes to the past instead of the future?

Isn't it January 1st 3000 when they go to the museum? didn't they unthaw him like while finishing the countdown?
User avatar #25 to #23 - alostcanadian ONLINE (12/29/2013) [-]
just watched it again, (before seeing this post oddly). But no they go into the museum on the 31st. If you remember they escaped the police blockade by taking off during the fireworks. (aka midnight)

The writers can look at a calender, how impressive...
#53 to #19 - anonymous (12/29/2013) [-]
Well the show was made in 1999. Just out of curiosity how many things do you know of that could reach that date so easily? And to bronybox below, and the others who replied to jackknapp, this show was made before something such as the iphone, first made in 2007 if i'm correct ( that is directed towards bronybox ), had been developed. So un-less you can tell me of a way to easily look up the day during that year, i would have to say the writers either had to find it out through various means, or make a damn lucky guess.

Gimme a calender that reaches the 3rd millenium pls.

Its not that ******* hard to predict future dates and days.

That's why dates exist in the first place...
User avatar #18 - gayobliteratorhere (12/29/2013) [-]
It's over

officially this time as the Simpsons will go until they find another show and even then
User avatar #16 - greenstrongworld (12/29/2013) [-]
Fun fact while we're on the topic of dates.

Every 11 years, the calendar repeats itself.
#34 to #16 - haroldsaxon (12/29/2013) [-]
Isn't it every 40 years? Scrooge lied to me

I looked it up and it's 6 or 11 years for normal years, and 28 for leap years. This means I have to save way less calendars.
#48 to #34 - killerofcows (12/29/2013) [-]
you would need 14 different calenders

Except on leap years, the first 28 days of march fall on the same days as the 28 days of February

Futurama is just all around funny, they never try to hard, and if they do they make it a point of trying so hard it becomes funny again.
I hope the Simpsons wraps up soon, because I really don't want to wait 3 years for Futurama again.

Also the episode where fry goes to get money out of the bank and it tells him he has 4 billion dollars or whatever if you do the math with standard interest rates with the 20 something dollars he had it roughly equals exactly what they said
User avatar #40 to #11 - EnergizierAnon ONLINE (12/29/2013) [-]
he didnt have 20 dollars in his account though, he had less than a dollar. or for some reason thats what i heard / remember.

You do realize that it would be pretty easy to figurre out mathematically what day will be at any given point in time. So for example,2013's 31st will be a Tuesday. Knowing that you know that:

2999-2013=986 years difference

Stick that into a modulus function (takes the first number and divides it by the second, giving only the whole number remainder). Aka mod 986/7 is 6. What this means is that 31st of 2999 will be six days displaced compared to the 31st of 2013, otherwise popularly known as Monday.

Meaning this post is wrong, January 1st, 3000 will be a Tuesday.

Don't you have to add the leap years as well?
I might be wrong here, but there should be 239 leap years until 2999:
Ignoring the xx00 years there are 24 leap years in a century, considering 2004, 2008 and 2012 have already passed it's 10*24-3=237
Out of the remaining 9 years (2100, 2200...) all except for 2400 and 2800 are not leap years, so a total of 239 days have to be added.

As 239/7=34+1/7, 1 day has to be added to your calculation, meaning the content would be correct saying december 31st 2999 will be a tuesday.
But as doctorscoop said already, it's already january 1st in the show by the time Fry wakes up

this post is really only wrong about what day bender tells him its free. if I remember correctly, he was frozen a second before new years for 1000 years. making him unfrozen in jan 1 3000

Naw, he did wake up on the 31st. One of Leela's first lines is "Now it's New Year's Eve, so I'd like to decide your fate quickly and get out of here."
