What if those kittens where left there because someone had a litter of kittens, and they sailed out to the middle of this lake and threw em all out for them to die, but those two survived and swam to the shore, Living there on the shore, confused and scared, only wanting to go home, and every time they saw a boat they would swim over to it, thinking it was the boat that threw them into the lake, and it was back to pick them up and bring them home. Every time swimming to it and meowing frantically saying "don't leave me behind! Wait for me!" only to be left at the lake every time by the confused fishermen, who would laugh and throw them back in, and all these kittens can think about is how at some point the right boat is gonna be back at some point, and itl finally take them home, and they can finally see their mom again.
