Why does every murrican keep saying Obama is the 44th President...? He's the 43rd.

I might be wrong not american and I dont read the news but isn't the election between two guys now, so the next one will be a guy, so if Obama's considered the 43rd then the 44th will be male no matter what?

Not yet. The candidate's for president haven't been selected yet. Currently there are 14 running for Republican candidate and 3 running for Democratic candidate. And two are women. (Carly Fiorina and Hillary Clinton.)

But the American citizens don't choose the president. Our "voting" is a complete farce, that is supposed to tell the Electoral College, how to vote. But they don't have to and often don't listen to the American voter, and you can cheat, it can be found out you cheated, and nothing happens as a result. Tldr, the American people have no say in who our president is. For better or for worse. Fake Democracy ftw!

Precisely why we need Sanders. I understand I do not yet know who you're backing, but he's pushing hard for voting rights and to overturn Citizens United. User avatar #4 to #3 - kingofish (12/15/2015) [-]
For an inexplicable reason, the commonly accepted presidential numbering system lists Grover Cleveland twice No.’s 22 and 24 because he served two non-consecutive terms. Hence, Obama is said to be the 44th president while only 42 other men have held the job. Interestingly, the men who served two consecutive terms are listed only once.

i know, the reason for a difference in counting between consecutive and non-consecutive terms is not explained("why do non-consecutive count twice?"), BUT it is explained why the counting is off("Grover Cleveland is listed twice because he didn't serve consecutive terms")!

Women are for the large part terrible leaders, that's the real reason you don't see them as CEOs and such,
and when you DO, you get bitches like Pao who ruin a something like reddit, though I think she finally caved and "mutually" stepped down, what about yahoo?
Headed by a female and bleeding in value. Remember that feminist who created that all female company thinking it would be paradise on Earth?
Nope, fighting, jealousy, gossip, syncing up of periods and everything went down in flames.

Studies have shown that men are better at chess than women and focus on long term thinking while women only see the short term. Might explain why so many women do irrational **** without thinking of consequences. Everybody thinks that if the president becomes a woman we will have no more war, when in reality every month we will hit code red.

If a woman won it would be on the feminism imperative, not because she's qualified (it will probably be the opposite). It's a lot YouTube or those female comedians. They aren't funny, they aren't interesting, and the popular ones general just copy what the men are doing. But you know, boobs.

Men pretty much built society from the ground up and are responsible for the majority of the innovation. Testosterone has been shown to increase obsessions (ergo a passion for architecture) and is probably the drive of the male ambition. Female and male brains are quite different, but this is not a bad thing.

Women have a very crucial role in human society, so important in fact that we literally require women for our survival and propagation of the human race. They are our mothers, our caretakers, they help feed raise and care for the family. Children need them, society needs them, it's very important.

But it todays world, women think they can have it all. They want all the power that comes with being a man but none of the responsibility. Obama was a pretty crummy president but mock my words

When feminist finally push and vote and bully for a female president its going to be a ******* disaster for America

As for gender roles, everyone should have equal rights and equal freedom to decide their own paths in life, including the career fields. This is non-negotiable. Perhaps women will tend to gravitate toward caretaking roles anyway, but the point is they must have a choice,

A lot of this is based upon biology. It's not PC in the least bit, but the reality is that men and women are different and better at different things. Men make better leaders because for thousands of years men were the ones that had to fight and survive and make snap decisions, we quite literally evolved for this.

The real reason they don't call it herstory is because women have barely done anything other than reap the benefits of what men have built and provided, which is their biology imperative built into them for their offspring. Science.

Not if you know how to read. tl;dr read, women unhappier since feminism, women don't negotiate for higher pay. I care not about the pussy, what I care about is the truth. "science of humanity" lel really, like what? Psychology? Sociology? Science. lol. Right.
User avatar #79 to #76 - SuperCollider (12/16/2015) [-]
And don't forget anthropology, biology, and genetics. Are you a complete moron? There are actually people who study and do research about people.

I'm actually not sure you read these articles. They make absolutely no corrolation to feminism whatsoever. It's clear you truly have no idea of what these articles are about.
User avatar #89 to #79 - infinitereaper (12/16/2015) [-]
Actual anthropology and biology as well as genetics support my argument. So does common sense. Which you seem to lack.

By many objective measures the lives of women in the United States have improved over the past 35 years, yet we show that measures of subjective well-being indicate that women’s happiness has declined both absolutely and relative to men. The paradox of women’s declining relative well-being is found across various datasets, measures of subjective well-being, and is pervasive across demographic
groups and industrialized countries. Relative declines in female happiness have eroded a gender gap in happiness in which women in the 1970s typically reported higher subjective well-being than did men.

These declines have continued and a new gender gap is emerging—one with higher subjective well-being for men.

This is self explanatory, despite decades of feminism, equal rights, and progress, women are getting more and more depressed.

Your right about the second one, it makes contradictory claims and tries to explain away that women don't negotiate, must have linked the wrong paper. but the reality is that this has been well known for a while now. It's simple economics.

Why don't you prove to me that women are better leaders and innovators then men as a whole?

Oh wait....
#92 to #89 - SuperCollider (12/16/2015) [-]
So I'm actually an archaeologist -- I've trained extensively in anthropology as well as human biology. The claim you're trying to make here is absolutely ridiculous. There simply isn't any evidence for this. I can send you many, many, many papers if you need some convincing.

Also, I'm not sure you know how a publication in an academic/scientific journal works. What you state to be 'self-explanatory' is clearly not. The authors would 100% have gone and explicitly stated this if that was the claim they wanted to make. They weren't writing a post-modern literary text that you have to deconstruct to understand. You're misunderstanding of their article is not evidence to your point.
User avatar #93 to #92 - infinitereaper (12/16/2015) [-]
Yeah and I'm studying and view things based on economics, the dismal science that doesn't lie.

The papers do check out though.
During the 70's and 80's women's movements wanted a more liberal life for women, and the result was less happiness.
So the conclusion that can be drawn is:
* Some women gained more happiness at the expense of other women.
* The movement backfired and made them more unhappy, or gained "freedom" at the expense of happiness.
Meanwhile, men have become happier. Sex is more readily available, hookups are less taboo and there are less strings attached. If anything, the feminist movement liberated men, not women.
User avatar #126 to #99 - SuperCollider (12/16/2015) [-]
So if you're reffering to the above papers, the authors absolutely do not make that claim -- the corrolation you're trying to demonstrate is very tenuos. The authors clearly recognize that the issue of happiness they were examining is far more complicated than what their survey results show. For the sake of concision in my limited time I draw your attention to Stevenson and Wolfer's (2009) closing remarks from 26 - 27.

User avatar #60 to #55 - infinitereaper (12/16/2015) [-]
Men invented, built, and innovated the majority of society. Historically this is refutable. We fought and battled and had to evolve to make quick decisions and use strategy. We evolved to lead, it's our genes. And judging by the vast majority of the top 100 fortune companies founded by men, I'd say men have been doing pretty damn well. Facebook, apple, microsoft, yada yada you name it. There's a reason for this. Biology.
User avatar #61 to #60 - therealfell (12/16/2015) [-]
men literally ******* oppressed women for ages
they did not allow women to work, to vote, to attend school
those things were all for men, women were baby factories and they prepared food

as for the war thing, that's because you don't want women fighting against men
yes, men are physically stronger. if you throw women into war against them, you will lose that war.

it doesn't mean women aren't mentally capable.
User avatar #63 to #61 - infinitereaper (12/16/2015) [-]
This is the 21st century, women can work, vote, and attend school.
And they are more depressed when they didn't have those "rights",

More women are in colleges then men, because of quotas more women are likely to get jobs despite being equally qualified when versus men, women have special programs and policies that support them, women have the upper hand in the law, and are legally entitled to everything a mans owns, and even his children. Rape accusations have destroyed the lives of many men, the law supports and encourages this. A majority of divorces are initiated by women. (and its no wonder when it pays). I could go on and on here.

If "patriarchy" and "male oppression" were the reason that women dont' excel, then we'd see bunch of female engineers, scientests, and ambitious businesswomen, BUT we STILL don't. Even with all their unfair advantages. The reason is simple, women value different things as men.

A lot of women who pour all their energy into their career, end up old, lose their fertility, and end up childless, depressed, and without a family. So they avoid that more. Biology imperatives as it were.

Men evolved with different imperatives, to conquer, to gain the most resources, it's obvious why more men do more **** . And its one of the big reasons they make better leaders.
User avatar #64 to #63 - therealfell (12/16/2015) [-]

User avatar #73 to #64 - infinitereaper (12/16/2015) [-]
My point was that even in current times women still don't do all that **** , even with advantages. So your argument is a fallacy. Besides not every society "oppressed" women. History wasn't wrong, women just don't innovate as much. Still true today.
User avatar #82 to #73 - therealfell (12/16/2015) [-]
well that's absolute ********

There go the hamstrings.
Emotional, not reason. Not facts, just blaming men.

So emotional that I'm telling you to kill yourself. gg logic.
Wasn't that guy you liked divorced? Screwed over by some woman? Divorce really pays these days.

Women constantly complain and blame everything but themselves on their own problems. If women were great leaders they'd' be out there leading, not NEEDING social movements to PLACE them in leadership positions.

But nope, must be mens fault.
User avatar #116 to #109 - therealfell (12/16/2015) [-]

#118 to #84 - sesshii (12/16/2015) [-]
Then you still haven't made an argument.
Today, women are free. There is nothing a man can do, that women can't.
infinitereaper argued that even today when women have all the freedoms that men do, and even more in some areas, they still lag behind men because of the choices they make are tightly connected with their biology.
User avatar #120 to #118 - therealfell (12/16/2015) [-]
and if by choices, you mean things such as child birth

yes, becoming a mother will keep you behind in many instances
hard to be a mother and a traveling business woman

men have that luxury where many women do not- unless you let a nanny raise your children.

but that's not something that should be used against women. or men.
#122 to #120 - sesshii (12/16/2015) [-]
Or just find a man who is willing to stay-at-home taking care of the house and children.

If women makes the decision to skip the family life and marry her job, she most likely will go as far up as she allows herself to.
But it's important to note that we are tanking in generalizations here, if i understand it correctly.
User avatar #123 to #121 - therealfell (12/16/2015) [-]
yes you're right. but the thing is, many women become pregnant by accident
they end up having to put college on hold because they have the new responsibility, where the men who help create that child, they don't. they have a bit more freedom to finish school and whatnot. at least that's how it typically goes
and I know plenty of women who have chose careers over children. my aunt is 48 and has no kids, she travels all over the world for her job.
my friend from hs, she works for a company and gets to take their private jet to work everyday.
she chose that over kids as well

infinitereaper's argument is that women are not built for such careers, which is very wrong
women did not have that option for many MANY years, because men did not allow it.
and this is not my emotions speaking, this is something you can read in any history book you pick up.
#127 to #123 - sesshii (12/16/2015) [-]
"yes you're right. but the thing is, many women become pregnant by accident"
This is simply not true.
Unless birth control fails, then it cannot be any accidents. If a women consents to unprotected sex, she takes her chances. There is no accidents involved. To say that it is is to remove agency from women.
User avatar #151 to #127 - therealfell (12/16/2015) [-]
first off, thank you for not being a dick about all of this like infinitedouchebag up there

but yeah, there are many ways accidental pregnancies can occur
being drunk and not having sense to use bc, broken condoms, straight up ignorance (sadly teen girls can and do get pregnant, but have limited education on protecting themselves) and failed birth control (not many people even know that antibiotics make bc useless)

In every election I always try to look at as many contenders as I can, even the little fry. Among these there's maybe only ever been three woman during any given election.

Also wasn't Palin an average woman before she became governor and then later presidential canidate?
User avatar #68 to #67 - notanotheraccount (12/16/2015) [-]
She was, but she had more time. Women arent often interested in politics to the point where they run. As a woman, that disappoints me, but i dont sit there and cry, im actually trying to make that happen many years from now. Please dont use Clinton as an example for females who are politically driven, shes pretty terrible. Its weird to me that people actually complain about representation in places they dont care about.
User avatar #72 to #68 - elcreepo (12/16/2015) [-]
Well, if women aren't interested, then they have no right to complain.

As a woman myself, I don't actually give a **** if there are or aren't women presidents. I don't care about running for it, but nobody's preventing me if I wanted to, like so many feminists are claiming these days.

What I care about are the solutions to problems everyone keeps bitching about. And I would like to see more female political involvement, if only to shut the masses up. It really is our own faults there aren't more women in politics.

Clinton's terrible, but she is politically driven. A little too politically driven, she's more of a politician than her husband, and that's not good.
User avatar #74 to #72 - notanotheraccount (12/16/2015) [-]
Seriously. There isnt some patriarchal construct that stops us from being president or taking STEM classes. Most women just dont want to.
