Well, bugs have no fear of the dark. They live simple existences. Not to mention a lot of them hunt at night, or light up.

Does not add up. The japanese name translates to Evil, Malicious. Nothing about dark, without light.

the type advantages are loosely based on reality, and in reality people fear bugs more than the dark, so it make sense

No, dude, it is not called dark in japanese, where the games are programed, it's called Evil, Malicious. So it has nothing to do with fear of dark.

yes but we are talking about type match ups, and evil is loosely associated with evil and personally i don't know anyone who fears evil or darkness more than creepy crawlies

Dark type is called Evil type in Japanese, maybe it has something to do with some kind of mythology?
The Dark type attacks are always "dirty" and unfair attacks, maybe there is something there.

No, it does. I'm not forgeting anything. The reason why the type advantages are how they are is because something adds up in a way. Bug attacks are effective against psychic because people tend to be grosed out by bugs, making it hard to focus, for example.
However, Dark is only called dark in english, in japanese it's あくタイプ, evil type. So the theory about people tend to fear bugs more than night does not work in japanese, where the games are programmed.

"You are forgetting" = present tense
"No, I do not (forget something)" = correct answer.

After some research this is the best I could find...

Censors and whatnot got it changed to "Dark". Evil people generally spend their time outsmarting others through crime and the like, or taking advantage of a person's ignorance. Bugs typically form a hive mind, which the Evil type cannot take advantage of: wrong the smallest Combee and the full force of a Vespiquen and its children will hop out to defend its young.

Anytime.

Also have you noticed that Bug, Ghost and Dark type pokemon all kinda counter Psychic Pokemon... Think a bit on that...why...

Bug, because people are grossed out by them, making it hard to concentrate, ghost because fear of ghosts, same thing, hard to focus. Dark (evil in japanese) because they are tricksters, playing dirty, messing with the one in front, going directly against the fair play a psychic would use.

Yeah, read something about that this was kind of what they were going for back then. Because they wanted children to play the games and make the type advantages and disadvantages to be easily understandable.

I remember when I was still in primary school biology... Pokemon all made sense... I mean the more complicated relations, like why Bug types resist Electric types and such
We also debated the ideas behind Sci-fi and Horror movies and the creatures in them... I miss primary school at times...

Consider the Power Rangers, most of their outfits are bug looking (big eyes, chin that goes in, etc.)

Japanese folk tales talk about bugs bringing good luck, that help fight against the dark, perse
