JB and Katy Perry both have real talent. They can sing well. Even though their lyrics are bad and they aren't great people that doesn't mean they don't have talent.

As someone who met "Katy" before she was famous I can honestly say she really can sing, but she chooses to produce populous garbage.

Katy Perry doesn't actually have all that much talent. Her voice on its own is really standard so all of her songs are masterpieces on an editing level to make it listenable. And whilst her earlier songs were fun and upbeat and pretty shameless (y'know, a kind of fun and catchy gimmick that most people were avoiding at the time in favour of bragging or club ****) her recent songs have just been dull and lifeless.

Whatever skills she had with writing music initially seem to have taken a real back-seat, if she even wrote those songs in the first place (which I wouldn't doubt but I'm still not too sure about).

Beiber can play instruments, sure, but he can't play them to a degree that is actually impressive. His singing skills aren't necessarily bad but they fall very short of what I would consider to be good. Hell, even One Direction can do better than Beiber (Best Song Ever is... it's actually a fun song similar to Katy Perry's good ones). Beiber himself is just... he doesn't have the credibility to get away with half of the stuff he sings about and he doesn't have the voice to get away with the other half.

Just not being bad at something doesn't constitute talent.

showshark :

I love all sorts of music, literally everything, I play piano, guitar, and saxophone to a fairly decent state. I'll admit now, I'll listen to anyone, one day I can be listening to Andrea Bocelli, then Eminem or then to Justin Bieber (somethings) or Linkin Park. My attitude to music is if I enjoy it, then I like it. So yeah, I do not mind Justin Bieber. Yeah he can be a little asshole and all and is very fortunate in the world. But I loved your comment man, it is one of** very, very** few comments where you actually label negative and positive points about Justin Bieber as an artist and not straight out say: "urgh durrhhh he gay hahaaaaa."

For that I thank you.

sorry for massive stupid message

Well yeah, I'd hate to hate something without knowing why I hate it... it's an exercise in futility and it would be pretty hypocritical of me. I mean, one of the things I like is MLP and I can't just go out and be mad at people mindlessly hating on something I like whilst also mindlessly hating on something I don't.

Also, it's the MP3 generation, dude. Everyone listens to everything these days 'cus it's cheap now so there's no need to invest in only one genre. Either way more power to you.

And since your taste in music is possibly as eclectic as my own I'll toss you a bone just 'cus.

every era has good/bad music, but music taste is subject to an individual. I personally think 90% of the stuff written in the 30's is better than anything written in the 60's. but that's just me.

I don't find it to be personal taste. You can find music like they had in the 30s on a computer anywhere. You cna find classic rock anywhere online, you can find any genre of music online and some artists are still producing in "dead" genres. The difference is that our generation has EDM aspects and EDM by itself. I love EDM and honestly a lot of music sounds better with it incorporated in it. So, we basically have everything previous generations had with a few new genres that they weren't even able to produce due to the technology at hand.

Eh, her earlier music was catchy because it was high-energy and pretty enjoyable even if it was kinda brainless. But recently her music has just been slow, low-energy, and really dull. She's too manufactured to really carry off the sincerity some of her songs try to convey. Roar is just dull. An empowerment song should be like Eye of the Tiger or Born this Way, something that makes you feel empowered through its tempo and lyrics but Roar really doesn't do that.

So I like -some- of her songs. Not because she's a particularly good artist but because they're fun and upbeat.

From her newest album:

Birthday - Fun and upbeat
Unconditional - More on the emotional side
Love Me - Very good when it comes to soft, but fast songs
This Moment - Another more deep-ish song

I'll admit, for the last three there are people that do it better (Katy Perry is capable, but the music is made to be more pop rather than being built to magnify the emotion), but they are still fairly good, and are more specialized in the tone than Roar (which I'll agree is a fairly lackluster song).

Every generation looks back at only the incredibly tiny percentage of music that they enjoy from longer than a decade ago, whilst subjected to only the "popular" music of today, then compares these in order to conclude that music today is worse than music from the past. People do it today, I'm sure many of your parents did it, and many of their parents as well.

People keep saying how every generation has had **** music but we just don't notice because all the good music is still around. I think the main difference now is that all the **** music is considered to be the good music. Plus there is more choice than ever now thanks to the internet and exploitable communications and means to share music, so good stuff tends to get drowned out by whatever appeals to top40 listeners, which unfortunately is generic ****. You might get one or two genuinely good songs but it's usually Rhianna, some British female singer who sounds the exact same as every other British female singer, some peppy pop-rock band and some dance songs all about grinding and *******. Hey, maybe that's your thing, it's kind of dumb to subject music to "This is popular so it's good" or "This is popular so it's bad".

Go listen to whatever appeals to you, **** music has always been around, it just seems that nowadays it gets more attention.

But two or more people sounding the same isn't really a bad thing. All that means is that you get to listen to double or more of the amount of music than you would get just with the one artist/band (assuming the similar people are good, but if they aren't you're still not losing anything due to their existence).

using this

**"it's kind of dumb to subject music to "This is popular so it's good" or "This is popular so it's bad".

is it weird that i like music from other generations better then my own. sure i had the 1 hit wonder era which had some catchy tunes. when it comes down to it i listen to stuff like tommy james and the shondells, beach boys, led zeplin, some of the beatles (most of it is garbage especially that acid trip they had called yellow submarine) alot of early 80's rock, and my personal favorite johnny cash. i don't know maybe i just like stuff with meaning behind it rather then bees in the trap. could be just me.

That's incredibly normal, moreso these days than in earlier generations, thanks to the internet.
We now have pretty much the entire history of recorded musical at our fingertips to download *ahem* totally legally and many ways to find new music (like lastfm)
The only rage that post is gonna get is from certain crazy Beatles fans that think that every they did was complete gold (they do exist and they're very annoying).

Wow, you're so special.
As If there isn't anybody else I know who doesn't listen to music from other generation.
Not to mention there is a **** load of music out there with meaning, even in other countries, not just America.
Quit being a close minded **** and explore.
