I have not watched the "western" OLDBOY but the original one is pretty nice, so I would not be surprised if what that critics says is true.
User avatar #147 to #41 - gypsydude (09/11/2015) [-]
DO not watch the Western Oldboy. Its trash and no their is no point to why they made a remake of it
User avatar #158 to #147 - ponchosdm (09/11/2015) [-]
I havent seen the American version but I really think that remake was to bring a great and crazy story to the American audience, and see if the director would make the other ones, I mean is to try to expand the market and make money

Saw this today and it was fantastic. The Guardian reviewer is just a massive cunt. He basically tore into it because he thhught it was too entertaining/funny for a biopic on some gangsters.
User avatar #34 to #2 - kokkoderrisch ONLINE (09/11/2015) [-]
It's got a 59 on metacritic and a 6.1 on Rotten Tomatoes. The Guardian's critic didn't rate it much lower than the average.
User avatar #51 to #34 - reaperriley ONLINE (09/11/2015) [-]
Everyone knows that metacritic is a **** review site and rotten tomatoes inst much different.

Just like with mad max, critic reviews =/= consumer opinion.
User avatar #52 to #51 - kokkoderrisch ONLINE (09/11/2015) [-]
Metacritic and Rotten tomatoes aren't review sites...
They're aggregators, they add all top critic reviews and then divide them to get an average score.

Consumers also have **** taste.
User avatar #53 to #52 - reaperriley ONLINE (09/11/2015) [-]
So you have **** taste then.
User avatar #54 to #53 - kokkoderrisch ONLINE (09/11/2015) [-]
I'm on the critics side here, so nope.

Also, what do you mean by Mad Max? Didn't the vast majority of people like it?
User avatar #55 to #54 - reaperriley ONLINE (09/11/2015) [-]
I forgot to add "video game" to it. The mad max video game had extremely high consumer reviews while critics gave it subpar views.

But video games and movies dont exist to make critics happy, they exist to sell to the consumer. If a critic isnt serving the consumer, then they are **** at their job and shouldnt be there. Just because you think something is **** , doesnt mean others will think so.

I will now talk about negative Mad Max reviews for just over 40 minutes
#111 to #55 - anon (09/11/2015) [-]
Ya, because user reviews totally aren't one sided as **** . The only people who EVER comment on Metacritic's user section are the people who really love it or hate it, so they're either blindly hating or fanboys ignoring any flaws. Not to mention there ARE legit complaints about the repetitiveness of the game, and the combat that's less complex than a game as simple as Arkham Asylum, that's bad.

I'm guessing you just really like the game so you're gonna drown out any legitimate complaints. Just like when people threw tantrums over IGN giving a remake of an old game almost 8/10 because anything lower than 8 triggers fanboys.
User avatar #121 to #111 - reaperriley ONLINE (09/11/2015) [-]
Either you are trying to bait me to death or you yourself are over emotional and you are worried about red thumbs, hence the anon status.

But in all seriousiness, watch the video. It addresses you comments plus additional points. I personally dont own Mad Max, but people are entitled to their opinion as long as they arent trying to silence others.

#82 to #70 - anon (09/11/2015) [-]
You did no such thing. It depends really on if you consider the oppinion of 'elite' art institutions the be-all-end-all. If you do, then you've entirely missed the point.

In terms of academia: there are a great deal of places that do consider blockbuster films art and in fact dedicate time to understanding how CGI and visual effects have changed our perceptions and how we approach artistry in general.
User avatar #84 to #82 - kokkoderrisch ONLINE (09/11/2015) [-]
Stop putting academia up in ivory towers. Academia is not meant to be elitist, they want laymen like you to read good works.
#88 to #84 - anon (09/11/2015) [-]
'Elite' art instituions are not the entirety of academia. If you had actually attended some form of higher education I would expect you to know this.

Yeah I don't really know British film laws. In the US you have to have a certain minimum number of words/lines to have to be credited. Exceptions, of course, include film makers who choose to credit those who didn't meet the criteria (e.g. Aaron Sorkin appearing in most of his own stuff as "man in bar"), or when the actor chooses nto to be credited despite meeting the criteria and then some (e.g. Bob Saget in How I met yout Mother).
