Jack Kirby did not found either of those companies. In fact, he worked for both. He is known for designing the now iconic looks of most superheros, including The Fantastic Four, Batman, Superman, Captain America, and Thor, earning him the well-deserved title "King of Comics"

Steve Ditko was a writer at Marvel, was basically Stan Lee's right hand man, and co-created Spiderman, The Fantastic Four, Doctor Strange, and a few other famous comic series.

Pic related, Jack Kirby's work

MFW I'm a competitve cosplayer Don't get me wrong I do it for fun, but I love competing too and I see a group of NINE SnK/AoT cosplayers who all bought their costume from the same website in the costume competition in the competive category, not exhibition.

I'm sorry, but if you're entering in a competition, don't store-buy your costumes, it's insulting to the people who actually put time and effort into theirs. It takes us about 40 hours to make our costumes, and it takes you about 30 seconds to buy yours then claim that the talents of someone else are your own. Trust me, we know it wasn't your work.

If anyone is interested I can post some of my costumes as well as time/money estimations I spent on them.

Costumes are judged by a panel of three judges and are rated based upon accuracy and craftsmanship, as well how creative you were in creating any props/difficult portions of your costume.

Prizes are awarded to the best in a variety of categories including best prop, best novice/journey/master, best anime/videogame/scifi, judges personal favorites (each chooses one that wasnt given any other prize) and best in show. Best in show at the last con I went to got a $2000 prize and some misc stuff worth about $500

I think what most people didn't grasp from your comment was "don't enter competitions" not "don't cosplay".

Store bought costumes are a waste of everyone's time at a competition... Enjoy them at the con, but let people who actually craft their **** compete...

Also... tips would be appreciated. Working on making my first costume Emiya Kiritsugu and I know next to nothing. Then there's the whole question of whether or not to use makeup...

I don't know the source, if you send me a picture I could probably give you a few tips, I'm still a novice, but I have a few tricks up my sleeve, and honestly the best place to learn about cosplay tools/methods is at cons, just ask cosplayers how they did it and most of the time they'll gladly explain how.

Honestly its a pretty straightforward cosplay, I don't know if he has any weapons/props, but as far the outfit goes you could just buy the individual pieces for the majority of it and get a wig and style it, for which I honestly suggest looking up tutorials cause I suck with wigs and avoid costumes that use them (even though I need one for my next costume.)

Yeah, I went for him because of how easy he seemed. He has an iconic pistol, pic related, that I'd like to recreate. And yeah, I've sorta been trolling around trying to find a good wig seller/wig tutorials. What's your opinion on using some light makeup?

Makeup is always interesting, how much makeup are we takling, if its just light makeup (10-30 minute prep) thats fine, but you're gonna want to be prepared if you're doing heavy makeup (Like in the picture, took 1h30m for each person every day we did it).

In short: makeup is makeup, entirely up to you unless required by the costume.

As far as the gun goes.. guns are a very tough prop, especially realistic ones. You could try making the barrel out of pvc tube and the rest out of worbla, but that takes some learning.

I'm just thinking a foundation with some coverup and maybe some light eye shadow so pictures turn out okay.

Thanks for the info on prop construction.

No problem, I mean I personally dont use makeup for every costume, but I do where appropriate, so just use your judgement.

I mean, I get the whole knowing how to sew thing being gay, but I never really understood how being knowledgeable about something that was a woman's trade hundreds of years ago makes you gay. Also there's a difference between pride and self-absorption.

And people quite apparently DO care from the responses myself and others have received from the various communities on here (namely anime and video game boards on here).

There's a stigma held with store-buying a costume and its only made worse when you enter it in a competition, despite the fact you literally can not win with a store-bought costume.

i never said gay, i said fag. learn the difference mate. your pretentious claim that basically amounts to "**** people who buy things make it yourself" sewing isnt gay, im a knight in the SCA and one of our requirements for my household is knowing how to sew. also, your statement of "If anyone is interested I can post some of my costumes as well as time/money estimations I spent on them." is narcissistic and self absorbed as hell, no one cares. also, everbody should have the chance to display what they have. not everyone has the skill to make a good set of AoT cosplay gear, the highest requiring machining skills, the lowest piece of **** requiring foam at the minimum.

TLR, fag doesnt mean gay, it means you are being an obnoxious asshole.

See, thats the thing, the store-bought AoT/SnK costumes don't have the blades/mobile gear things, just the cloth parts.

I don't have a problem with buying premade things for your costume, just buy more basic versions and edit them at the least, put some effort into it if you're entering in a competition for instance buying a tan sweater and sewing on the collar/logo/zipper . The main problem I had was that they were trying to compete with it, you can enter the competition under exhibition, but they tried to win prize money using someone else's work then claiming it as their own. You can show off what you have, sure, but don't try to get money for something you didn't earn.

Self-absorbed would have been if I had posted all my costumes unsolicited. I personally find it interesting to see how much time/money was spent constructing costumes and regularly ask other cosplayers for such information, I suppose not being a cosplayer you wouldn't understand.

Also if expecting a minimal level of effort in competitions makes me an asshole, then that's just one more thing on the list of reasons I'm an asshole.

to me you're comment is a "validate my existence please" every group has the assholes who try to get fame and money using someone elses work. just like furries and fursuits, or SCA members wearing full ice falcon gear. yes, the CULTURE you are responding to IN THEIR GROUP will validate something that MATCHES their culture, so of course you will receive validation, but here, in public, no one cares. Granted you not being a member of the SCA you wouldnt understand the stigma of wearing full ice falcon on the field.

Actually, he has a point. Just picture this: You worked on a vase, molded the clay and put it in the oven, waited just the right amount of time and then polished and painted the **** out of that bastard to enter some competition. Then comes a group Douche McBaggeries with store bought vases and pretend to compete along yours.
How would you feel about that?
