For instance, a disaster happens, the teacher wouldn't expect anyone affected to be handing one in.

When I was in high school a kid got in a car accident and he was still expected to turn in his final project because "he had plenty of time to do it beforehand." I forget whether he turned it in or not but it's still ******** . His mom had to turn it in or something, again not sure if he turned it in, but the teachers expected him to have someone deliver it to the school. Which bothered me even more because his ******* mom has better **** to worry about than his stupid **** project when he's in the damn hospital. What the ******* **** was up with these teachers?

I agree with both sides - he did have a lot of time to do it already, but he also should be given an extension. I mean it's not up to the school if the student does it in 1 day or 6 months, whatever the school prefers it doesn't matter. Point is that student received less time than others due to the incident and therefore deserves 'extra' time.

Excuses are just reasons why you should be excused for a particular action. Saying you refuse to accept any excuses is the same as saying you refuse to listen to reason which is ridiculous.
Now whether excuses should hold any water or not is a different story. For example,
I was working really hard on another assignment so I was late with this one is no excuse because you should've got the assignment done sooner.
I was hit by a truck so I had to miss two weeks of school and thus couldn't get any homework done, now that's an excuse.
Saying **** like 'I don't accept excuses' feels like one giant cop out for teachers to dodge the responsibilities of important part of their career.

Seriously, if you are so obsessed with completion that you would demand students be willing to carve a stone tablet in order to complete assignments, then you're taking it too seriously. This is the cancer eating at the educational establishment: when we find out that we're not performing well, we say "Well I guess students need more work, more discipline, more difficult classes!" which is not true. They need teachers who are more heavily policed, more educated, and more attached to the material. They need classes more focused on how much you have learned, not how much you have written or done to reach the point you're at.
