Hey guys it's faggot OP here. Been a long time since I got this many thumbs but I would just like to thank everyone for thumbing up my content. I would also like to add that there is a second part of the story It was a actually a girl wearing the ACDC shirt and my friend was not mad at the fact that she has bad taste in music, she was just assuming that the girl did not listen to ACDC because of the fact that she was at a One Direction concert. So this time OP actually was fag and im sorry D:

Admittedly, it is a bit weird to wear another band's merch to a concert (unless you forcefully get dragged there and try really ******* hard to show it).

A lot of people do it where I'm from.

Usually similar bands though, not sure why an AC/DC fan would go to a 1D concert.

Exactly, that's what I mean. It just seems weird, given that I wear band merch to show my support for that band.
If I were to become some famous singer and people would show up to my concerts wearing Skrillex T-shirts or something, I would probably feel a bit offended. Like "I'm at your concert now, but if I could I'd much rather be at his. You're just the only artist who was available right now."

Then again, I've never been to a proper concert so I don't know how things are done in the real world.
User avatar #11 to #10 - ireallylikepotatoe (08/06/2014) [-]
Nah it's not like that at all. Bands won't notice what you wear, they'll notice if you're having fun or not.

Also I've been to concerts where the t-shirts cost more than the ticket and I just think that's silly.
#12 to #11 - katha (08/06/2014) [-]
While that makes sense, it would still feel a bit "off" to me. Alas, that's just my personal opinion, and I can understand your point.

Ahh **** .. I only own two band shirts (Slipknot and Within Temptation), and neither were bought by me.. No idea how much those things normally cost, but if it's as bad as you say then I'll most likely never buy any band merch. I'm a broke student, not a millionaire.

Or the shirt you're wearing is pretty close in style to the band you're seeing and you don't have any shirts for the band you're seeing
User avatar #37 to #16 - katha (08/06/2014) [-]
Yeah yeah that's a different thing entirely. But AC/DC and 1Direction or whatever it was aren't close to each other at all.. Like, if it'd be Jonas Brothers or the Bieber it would've made some sense, heck even the Beatles would have been sorta fitting.
I just see no reason to wear something just because it's 'controversial' to wear it at that time, which -in all honesty- seems to be the reason he wore it. "Hurr look at my superior taste, I listen to metal and **** " Don't get me wrong, I listen to metal too. But I can't stand the entire 'my genre is superior' attitude.
User avatar #99 to #37 - Kairyuka (08/07/2014) [-]
Well maybe you like the one band, but you don't have that shirt, so you show another band you like in the hopes that someone else likes that band along with the one you're seeing? I mean if you both like AC/DC and One Direction your taste spectrum is pretty broad already, there must be others like that?
User avatar #23 to #2 - homicidalherpes (08/06/2014) [-]
I like to wear other tour shirts to concerts to help strike up conversations with people. It's actually a good way to meet new people.
User avatar #45 to #23 - katha (08/06/2014) [-]
Eh, but would you wear a shirt of a band that's of an entirely different genre than the concert you're currently at? Like, wear a Disturbed shirt to a Lady Gaga show?
User avatar #78 to #2 - fadetometallica (08/07/2014) [-]
You ever been to a metal concert? You could be seeing, say, Iced Earth and you know what would be the most common shirts you'd see?

1) Metallica
2) Slayer
3) Five Finger Death Punch

Every single time.

I could also see it being okay if you simply don't own a shirt of the band you're seeing. The first time I saw Of Mice & Men live, I didn't own an OM&M shirt, and wore a Fullmetal Alchemist shirt.

Really? At metal concerts people ALWAYS wear t-shirts from other bands, I actually learnt today that it's frowned upon wearing the t-shirt of the band you're seeing because people already know you like that band if you're seeing them live.
#81 to #73 - calvarylad (08/07/2014) [-]
Yea people do wear other band shirts at concerts but to say its frowned upon is simply retarded. If you go to any metal concert or others you are going to see a **** ton of people wearing shirts to the band playing. Like they sell shirts to bands at the shows so people are going to buy them. Alot of people and whay if its their favorite band? Bet they will have that shirt on if its their band

I hate that people like me can't listen to classic rock anymore because people like him and people like you cause it to be demonized in the eye of the public for being edgy
And then we can't complain either because you call the complaints angsty and edgy
#86 to #80 - ihateemo (08/07/2014) [-]
No one cares what you listen to, but when you shove your music down others throats you become a faggot.

And what do you mean you "can't" listen to it. If you don't listen to the music you like because you are scared of peoples opinions you are an even bigger faggot.
User avatar #91 to #86 - skeptical (08/07/2014) [-]
I don't, that's why I'm angry at the people who do
And I thought the connotations behind "can't" were implied, so if they weren't, I apologize. I can't listen to it without other people bitching at me for being angsty and edgy, and it's especially annoying when they're talking about stuff like AC/DC and Styx when I'm playing Paul Simon or the Allman Brothers
#93 to #91 - ihateemo (08/07/2014) [-]
The Allman brothers are almost exclusively a blues band and Paul Simon is folk rock.

Neither of those are considered classic rock so maybe that is why people talk about ACDC to you.
User avatar #94 to #93 - skeptical (08/07/2014) [-]
With a genre like that the lines blur quite a bit and people usually include them on any kind of list, such as this one:
rateyourmusic.com/list/dd23beatlesfan1/the_100_greatest_artists_of_classic_rock/1/
or this one:
www.classicrockbands.nl/
I used them as an extreme example because they have such a mellow acoustic sound that it would seem impossible that anyone would classify them as edgy, thus furthering my point
God forbid you should listen to anything Boston or Blue Öyster Cult, because they go into an absolute fit
#95 to #94 - ihateemo (08/07/2014) [-]
Ah I get your point now sorry i thought you were scrutinizing people for not understanding your music. What makes you like the old school blues and rock much?
User avatar #96 to #95 - skeptical (08/07/2014) [-]
That brighter sound and meaningful lyrics
There are a lot of modern-day alternatives but they don't tend to capture the same spirit as the old stuff did
It's too dark in tambre, the vocalists try too hard to emulate each other and sound very nasal, and the lyrics are built around a simple formula, and to me at least it all sounds the same
Old rock and blues not only had lyrics that make you think but also instrumentation that makes you think
#97 to #96 - ihateemo (08/07/2014) [-]
Ah well respect for that description. To me and most people I know blues music just seems to kind of drone on for a long time, I guess that comes with us being born listening to such faster paced music.
User avatar #100 to #97 - skeptical (08/07/2014) [-]
Hey man, it's all personal preference. If something seems to just be droning on after a while, it's just a good sign you might not like that style of music. What I don't like might be the greatest genre ever for somebody else (see also: metal, hip-hop)

I'm a metal fan, so naturally when I go to music festivals I wear metal band shirts. When you see other metal fans, there is a mutual appreciation, an understanding that you are both metal. If you were at a OD concert, dragged there by your gf or whatever, and you are a metal fan, then god dammit wear a metal band shirt. you can often scout out other people I the same situation, and rejoice in the fact that you aren't alone. Hey, maybe you'll meet up in the bathroom or something and **** each other senseless get to know each other

TL;DR, never be afraid to fly the t shirt flag for great music.

It's the same recycled boy-band dribble that's been promoted by two different groups every decade since the Beatles.

Their lyrics are shallow nuances of romance and sensitivity largely attracts the most ignorant and gullible demographic available; hormone-induced tween girls, with them guickly growing out of the illusion by the time they reach adulthood, unless you're telling me N-Sync or the Backstreet Boys today are still shelling out platinum hits. One Direction swiftly replaced the Jonas Brothers, soon there'll be another group of 3-5 young men filling basic character archetypes releasing synonymous lyrics to a different bassline.
