Too many people think silencers are dangerous, much like AR15's. Mine have never killed anyone. Nor have I.

but sersiously what do you even need a silencer for? in germany all kinds of silencers/suppresors whatever are absolutly illegal because they aren't necessary for hunting/sporting/selfdefense in any way.

I ALSO DONT UNDERSTAND HOW PEOPLE CAN SAY THEY NEED TO HAVE A KNIFE?!?!?!?!

THAT ONE KID WENT ON A MASS STABBING SPREE. JESUS CHRIST PEOPLE. DID YOU ******* SEE THE KNIVES HE USED? NO ONE NEEDS KNIVES LIKE THAT.

WAKE UP PEOPLE! WE NEED TO BAN ALL KNIVES.!!!! HOW CAN YOU SAY YOU NEED A KNIFE WHEN YOU CAN JUST USE AN ELECTRIC HYDRO-CUTTER FOR ALL YOUR CUTTING NEEDS?

SERIOUSLY GUYS!? WHAT THE HELL ARE PEOPLE WALKING AROUND WITH KNIVES FOR? WHY DO YOU NEED A KNIFE IN YOUR KITCHEN? THEY ARE OBVIOUSLY DESIGNED AS WEAPONS TO KILL AS MANY PEOPLE AS POSSIBLE.

GOD DAMMIT, THESE WEAPONS OF MASS DESTRUCTION NEED TO BE CONTROLLED. YOU CANT TELL ME ANYTHING THAT WOULD MAKE ME BELIEVE YOU NEED A KNIFE.

YOU WANT RIGHTS AS A FREE AMERICAN MAN OR WOMAN?!?!?!! WHAT, IS IT RIGHTS-O'CLOCK?

YOU ARE OBVIOUSLY SOME KIND OF ECCENTRIC KNIFISM LUNATIC WHO JUST WANTS TO KILL PEOPLE. THESE KNIVES ARE DANGEROUS AND MURDER 1 MILLION PEOPLE EVERY DAY. WE NEED WORLD WIDE VIDEO/AUDIO MONITORING DEVICES IN EVERY ROOM OF EVERY HOME TO MONITOR THE ASSAULT KNIVES PEOPLE ARE USING.

ACT NOW! SIGN THE PETITIONS! BAN ASSAULT KNIVES NOW!

A suppressor is simply a noise reduction device. It doesn't actually silence anything.
Simply put, it is a hearing safety device, nothing more.

Why are we basing it on need, if someone wants to own a suppressor they should be able to, in my opinion. Guns are really loud, sometimes you want to shoot with waking the whole neighborhood.

I can understand this yeah 'merica freedom thing but really? that's like saying why am I not allowed to own nuclear weapons, I don't need them either but I insist on my right to own absolutly anything no matter how dangerous it is or what purpouse it serves.

Owning fire arms is not at all like owning nuclear weapons. Comparing a device that leaves an area irradiated for thousands of years. If we start basing what another person owns on what we think they should have are we really free. f you don't want to own a suppressor then that is your right not to own one. They do have uses, in certain states you can hunt with suppressors. Guns are really loud, deafening even. Having a device that lowers the sound level means not having to wear hearing protection while not rupturing your eardrums, or pissing off people you shoot around.

I don't need to prove any sort of need to own something that I have a right to own.
That being said, there are several reasons why suppressors are a practical item for any shooter to own for various reasons.
One reason is protecting one's hearing. I use mine when I hunt, and I do not use hearing protection otherwise it would be almost impossible to hear the critters I'm out hunting. The suppressor allows me to continue to use my favorite firearms while protecting my hearing over time.
The second is the firearm becomes more user friendly and "public range-friendly". People would prefer shooting next to someone using a suppressor than someone with a big, loud, gun. And it makes it much easier to get children and women into the sport of shooting.

do suppressors deteriorate over time?
User avatar #83 to #80 - taxideataxus (06/13/2014) [-]
Newer technology and baffle design has made suppressors virtually lifetime purchases. Cleaning is required after long periods of time, but generally the sound suppression level remains the same.

Hi.
User avatar #86 to #83 - sirbrentcoe (06/13/2014) [-]
well, I clean my guns after every use, or every 6-8 weeks to deter rust anyways. I wonder if I could get one for my PX4..
User avatar #87 to #86 - taxideataxus (06/13/2014) [-]
Michigan is very gun-friendly. And suppressor-friendly. The issue with the PX4 is this; Beretta offers an extended barrel that is not threaded, so you will need a gunsmith to cut threads. Then there's the issue of the PX4 having a rotating barrel which requires some form of aftermarket modifications to mitigate that, allowing for a silencer to be effectively attached and used without causing a tilt in the gun.

you can put a silencer on the gun without getting rid of the rotating action
User avatar #94 to #87 - sirbrentcoe (06/13/2014) [-]
that's why I was wondering if it was possible. With the ratcheting barrel, I have to figure the addition of a suppressor would be a bit more challenging, than say on my wife's S&W 6904, or P11.

you can use a can on the px4 without changing the action, you just gotta be careful c hecking it every few rounds

good to know. thanks man.
