Tokyo' s 'Reversible Destiny'
lofts have sloping ceilings,
uneven floors, echo chambers,
and at least 6 colors in view
at all times. The design is
an attempt at slowing the aging
process by making you more aware
of your body and keeping you
from getting too comfortable

and is also complete ******** OK the first parts legit but these viruses are no more if not less harmful to humans than most modern common viruses like the common cold
User avatar #17 to #15 - Tusura (09/24/2015) [-]
Except we have no way of knowing that yet.

What could be a minor cold to one person, could completely wipe out a different civilization.

IE: Settlers in America giving diseases to Native Americans.

Viri are only dangerous if they have receptors attuned for the species they are infecting. A virus which has been hibernating in the arctic permafrost for millions of years has never encountered human cells, and has no idea what to do to them. If it entered your body, your immune system would detect it, wipe it out (that is what causes the cold-like symptoms in a cold), and move on.
#35 to #17 - anon (09/24/2015) [-]
It's a virus thought to infect amoebas so as we are much large organisms with an immune system we will be fine
#33 to #17 - anon (09/24/2015) [-]
One of the fears is that diseases like the pox could still lay dormant in the permafrost. There's a lot of it, and we don't know what died in there.

How the **** do you mean the verge of extinction? With 127 million people and a population density of 871 people per mile, these ***** are one of the most overpopulated countries on the planet and they're whining about extinction?

Like a ******* landwhale whining about starving while gobling down a whole ******* cheese cake.

Except population growth has been not only stagnant, but shrinking as the Japanese have few/no kids. Consequently, the average age for the population is increasing, and there are fewer and fewer working age Japanese adults in relation to # of jobs/man power needed.

The same problem is had in Russia. They had 148 Million at the fall of the USSR, and by 2009 they had 141.9 million.
User avatar #14 to #8 - yunablade (09/24/2015) [-]
Compared to other countries.
Their population is declining faster than any other, so yes, comparatively, they are. And yes they appear on the top because no other human population is declining like theirs is.

I get your point, and understand you're making jokes, but population is not that simple.

"Verge is extinction" is an exaggeration that's probably just used to grab attention and has no real meaning, yes, but the Japanese birth rate and elderly population percent is an actual problem that, if continues along the same trend as it is now, will have very real, very dire consequences for the nation.

Negative population growth is a phenomenon we have not witnessed before like we are today, and the ramifications for such demographic trends are something we don't fully understand yet. All we have are predictions, and apparently click-bait tier assumptions and your "humorous" (?) overreaction. Both of the latter come from a lack of understanding.

#10 to #7 - anon (09/24/2015) [-]
Guys are beta and can't handle rejection so they don't even try.
Girls never make the first move because that would mean they're whores/sluts/whatever.

Japan as a country, for all it's weirdness is quite prudish when it comes to sex, especially women who might want sex or relationships.
It's also not quite up there with women's rights either, women can only have certain jobs and are laughed out of any fields not considered 'womans work'.
#13 to #10 - gigabowzer ONLINE (09/24/2015) [-]
**gigabowzer used "*roll picture*"**
**gigabowzer rolled image** That is quite inaccurate, actually.

The reason why men in Japan don't go along with the married life is because of their expected role in marriage. Men are supposed to be high in class(both in employment and in style). They are getting tired of this standard and want out of it.

Sex =/= Reproducing

Sex is Fun Reproducing ... not that much.
#46 to #7 - anon (09/25/2015) [-]
Porn is not reproduction. I hope you are just playing dumb.

Anyway, the reasons for Japan's birthrate/population growth rate are a number of cultural forces that I am by no means an expert of. You would be far better off looking up an article than you would be asking here on FunnyJunk. Anyway, there are a few basic ideas that even others have already mentioned.

First, Japan, despite the porn you've seen and how that has shaped your understanding of the country, is a relatively reserved nation when it comes to sex and sexuality. Certainly more so than the United States and Western Europe. This contributes to the lack of sexual relationships.

Second, the career culture eats up quite a big portion of many peoples' lives, not leaving them time or energy for relationships or families. This is specifically significant for women that are entering the workforce, a relatively new phenomenon, similar to the rest of the world.

Third, Otaku culture probably plays a role, though I am not sure how much. There are Japanese males, usually young males of 18-30, that would rather immerse themselves in their hobbies and passions instead of dealing with the opposite sex.

Fourth, or possible still third, there are a lot of men that, even if they are not otaku, just don't care for the opposite sex and raising a family. The term "herbivore men" is becoming more popular, I believe, to reference men that are either fed up with or disinterested in sexual relationships. This occurs for a number of reasons, though some of the most prevalent relate to societal and relationship roles and what is expected of men in Japan. Asian culture is based very heavily on expectations, and failing to meet those expectations is very damaging to individuals. So, it would be far easier to abandon those expectations entirely, ignoring sexual relationships, than to fall victim to the shame and misery of trying and failing to meet them.

Yes. What? Did I say it wrong? Is it global cooling? Global warming? The o-zone whole? Acid rain? Warming oceans? Melting ice caps? Rising sea levels? Polar bear extinction? Acidifying oceans? Climate wierding? More frequent extreme weather? Oh, wait. It can't be those things. Those things never happened...
User avatar #29 to #28 - ninesundev (09/24/2015) [-]
The o-zone whole? Acid rain? Warming oceans? Melting ice caps? Rising sea levels? Climate weirdening?

Are you an idiot? We had the hottest summer in Germany since decades. My town got flooded 2 years ago for the first time in history. We can expect to see a ****** up winter this year. Ocean level rose lately. Polar caps are decreasing, just look at satellite images ffs. Acid rain also happens, quite common in heavily indeustrial areas.

You are either really bad troll or utterly retarded if you really believe in that **** you just posted.

>Your local weather proves nothing. If all bad weather "proves" global warming then does a lack of bad weather disprove it? We haven't had a hurricane in Florida in ten years. This decade is part of the mildest period of weather in modern US history. By your logic, you have to admit that this fact disproves it, right?
>Oceans haven't risen more than a millimeter or two. The predictions were that New York city would be underwater by now.
>Temps haven't risen in two decades.
>Polar ice is at it's largest and thickest ever.
>There are more polar bears than ever.
>Acid rain does not happen.

Try to get some news outside of your state-run sources. Even the UN had to change their data and republish their latest findings when their OWN study revealed that climate change wasn't happening. Everything I said is true. You are 100% wrong. All localized anomalies are due to the sun.

I get it. You're 18, and you don't know what you're talking about. You can only regurgitate the current propaganda. When I was a kid, I could recite the o-zone whole propaganda as effortlessly as you can recite the "global warming" ******** , but calling everyone who disagrees with you a troll is just weak.

Also, I see you conveniently skipped "global cooling" and "global warming." Why?
User avatar #52 to #32 - ninesundev (09/25/2015) [-]
Why should my age matter to the fact if an climate change is real or not?
You know what acid rain is? It is not raining aggressive green glowing acid from the skys.

Thickes ice on poles. Are you kidding me? I can disprove you with google maps.
www.google.de/maps/place/64%C2%B022'39.0%22S+57%C2%B025'52.4%22W/@-64.377501,-57.43123,475m/data=!3m2!1e3!4b1!4m2!3m1!1s0x0:0x0
Last time I checked "thick ice" does not look like solid rocks.

Also glaciers in my area are almost gone completely.

Ok I am 100% wrong, so please give me your sources all mighty and all knowing creature ...

That's gonna backfire. Soon all the Japanese who will still have kids will all be screwing their siblings without knowing and eventually the genetic code will tear itself up and mutate, killing many more than would have died otherwise, and lower the population even further.
