Is there a lordoftheringexplain? Or ringexplain? If not there should be, because I need help.

After the events which are told in the hobbit. Balin and some fellow dwarfs went to Moria to rebuild it, but they fail since it is populated by a ******** of Orcs and a Balrog. In Lord of rings the fellowship around Gandalf pass through Moria and find the skelettons and journal of this dwarf expedition.

Ok lets talk about dwarf feels. I am a huge fan of guild wars 1 and 2 and in the original the dwarfs have to defeat the destroyers and take on what is called the "Rite of the Great Dwarf" and they get strong enough to beat them, but because of the it they are cursed to slowly turn to stone. In Guildwars 2 which is set about 500 years in the future on the very last mission you can find Ogden Stonehealer, a dwarf you fight beside in Guildwars 1 and he is almost completely turned to stone, and he is said to be the last living dwarf. So many feels.

Meanwhile Bombur becomes so fat he cannot walk, and is still kicking even after Sauron is defeated.

you want dwarf feels? try getting the last human in the universe back to earth, having an entire species evolve and die out in your hold, being run a by a senile computer and having the hologram from hell ordering everthing around you and then being taken apart by a manic group of nanobots!

I still don't really know what happened at Moria before the fellowship arrived.
Anyone knowledgeable?

ok, someone gave me the whole story and then I read up:

They dug too far, balrog comes out and kills many. The dwarves flee and abandon the place....now called Moria (the black pit). Orcs and trolls move in and worship balrog. Dwarves come back for revenge, they kill tons of orcs, but then again balrog is too strong.

Finally Balin and a group of dwarves go in to see if they can reclaim Moria as well as some of its treasures. They are successful for some time, but the sheer number of orcs overwhelm them.

mhmm, and of course *spoilers I guess* Kili and Fili straight up die protecting mortally wounded Thorin. What? You thought the dwarf who falls in love with the Elf would live happily ever after and destabilize thousands of years of cultural dynamics that goes completely unmentioned in the sequel?
