Must be a small bottle if it only fills up the glass one time.

I am neither an optimist not a pessimist. I am a realist. The glass is not half full. The glass is not half empty. The glass is at half of its maximum capacity.

You're missing the point of the image. Whether the glass is half full or empty relies on the previous state of the glass. If the glass just lost half of its contents, it's half empty, but if it just gained the half it now has, it's half full.

I always go by if you're emptying it, its half empty. If you're filling it, its half full.
#20 - hemming (04/05/2014) [+] (4 replies)
If empty = 0 or Nothing
Then wouldn't half empty mean half of nothing, which isn't really possible?
Be gentle, i never could into math after prepschool

Well if you have a vessel, 0% of the possible volume is called empty and the 100% is called full, you can switch the word empty with vacant. If you do this you can see the space which isn't full as empty, as an unused space.
So if you fill an vessel 50% you could say it is half full, or half empty( 50% of unused space)
If you someone say, the glass is empty, they mean it contains 100% of unused space or "emptiness".
Hope you get my point and please be gentle, my englishskills aren't that good.

Far too full for red wine. That is a white wine level!
User avatar #41 to #38 - PubLandlord (04/05/2014) [-]
It's not the amounts it's about the actual glass themselves

Red wine glasses are supposed to be wider, allows for more room for the wine to breathe, hence why red wine bottles are opened 30 mins before serving

White wine glasses are narrower because that allows less air to circulate around the glass and warm the wine, also have a smaller "bowl" so you have less hand on the glass, to again stop the wine from warming

You are "supposed" to pour red wine until it hits the widest point of the glass, white wines to about 60% full.

But it's all pretty pretentious ******** anyway, it really makes no difference to the taste so anyway who tries to sound smart by bringing it up is a douche

Most upmarket restaurants and bars use the same glasses for each and sell the wine in the same measurements so it's just some retarded details people like to bring up to sound "classy"

Ah... you fill a glass, you empty a bottle, however you can empty a glass, and you can fill a bottle
science is amazing
User avatar #39 - skysailor (04/05/2014) [-]
This is actually a great metaphor for life.

When the glass is half full, the bottle is half empty. In a sense, it depicts the struggle of immediate satisfaction versus long term contentment. Will you drink a full glass to only lust for it later, or will you drink a small glass to preserve the sweet moments of bliss?

Or will you just go buy another God damn bottle like an alcoholic, you dirty drunk?
#37 - iamstoopid (04/05/2014) [-]
theyre both half empty and half full
User avatar #36 - newsuperyoshi (04/05/2014) [-]
They both are empty in the end and you're full then.

**nagafever rolled image** I'm not an optimist, realist, pessimist, whatever-ist. I'm lazy, so the glasses are always empty. Drinking from the bottle of everything saves me a lot of cleaning.

The glass contains liquid, and I shall quench my thirst with it.
User avatar #17 - iforgetwhattosay (04/05/2014) [-]
the glass went from being empty to being filled half way. the bottle went from having more of the wine in it to having less. therefore, the bottle is half empty and the glass is half full. nothing to do with optimism or pessimism

What's the other half?

It's not like there needs to be a complicated debate about this stuff. If a glass is half full, then the other half is empty.
