I've never understood why people get all ego-crazy about fictional character fights.
They are from different fictional universes with different rules and different power scales. Goku's show is actually meant to have power-based conflict and room for growth. The entire point of OPM is to have a character that cannot be harmed and ends every fight in a single punch. I like DBZ better, but Saitama is literally just written to be an unbeatable, unstoppable force, whereas Goku is written to be a dynamic character that CAN be beaten.
Saitama would win the vast majority of imaginary fights against ANY of the fictional characters I love because the whole point of the show is how overpowered he is, that doesn't make him a better character, just a character from a totally different kind of story. He's a caricature of the overpowered main character trope meant to poke fun at plot armor and other anime stereotypes.
It's just how people are. They want their favorites to win, y'know. But...
The only real issue I have with what you said is how Saitama "finishes it one punch."
Regardless of how serious he was, Boros took more than one punch and it didn't really seem like Boros was quite up to the DBZ level with his energy attacks. I'd say that, if we use that fight as a scale, the fight would probably take more than one punch between Saitama / Goku or whoever.
True, but at the end of the fight Boros comments on how Saitama was clearly still holding back and not even really trying, so we still don't know much about Saitama's actual power at this point.
I mean, I haven't read the manga to know if the ever make Saitama a little more mortal. If so there would be something interesting to talk about, because right now it's implied that we haven't even remotely seen what Saitama can do, so there's not really enough to make an argument for either case yet. All I know right now is that it's a character whose written to never lose under even the most ridiculous circumstance versus a character whose written to be able to lose, so that's all I have to base anything on at this point. If we were to actually get a glimpse of what Saitama can really do, then I think a Goku vs Saitama conversation could happen properly.
And yeah, the energy attacks in OPM aren't on DBZ's scale, but the reverse is true for physical attacks. Goku does regularly get punched through a few buildings or so, and that seems to at least be mildly uncomfotable for him. Saitama gets casually punched to the moon and still won't start trying.
I'm not sure whether I'd want them to make some actual power conflict in OPM or not. I think they did a great job of making fun of anime stereotpes from what I saw, but I don't know if that gag could really carry them through an entire show.
While it's true he didn't take it too seriously even near the end, he still didn't use only one punch. It's likely he'd repeat the process when fighting anyone near or above Boros' level.
The manga isn't actually that far ahead. It's got enough for about 8-9 episodes I think, but not much else. But we've only seen Saitama "lose" to: A mosquito , Genos at the restaurant, and he takes a brief wound from a cat but that's in an 'extra' chapter and isn't considered canon. He hasn't really got "serious" against anyone yet, far as I know.
The energy attack Boros uses was on DBZ scale, I think. Probably around early Vegeta level, but still. I do agree with Physical attacks not really being similar in DBZ, though. They're crazy in One Punch but kind of just filler for the most part in DBZ.
The "gag" of Saitama being there to clean up will probably carry them far. They're good at telling jokes which is the main selling point, but also they have a heavy focus on the side characters during the times when Saitama just isn't around.
Like he said on the trip to the lab with Genos: "I usually get there late." It's not really focused on Saitama's combat unless it needs to be. Otherwise it focuses on the side characters, and on characters spending time with Saitama. They could just use the combat with the non-overpowered characters to fill in any need for real conflict.
Or they could just show pre-balding Saitama. He could actually take hits and feel them.
You know if people didn't post **** like this it wouldn't even matter. I like Goku I grew up with dbz. I don't like one punch man. I just don't like the idea of the show or really how powerful Saitama is without a real reason. I can't give a **** about his "workout" cuz it's ******** xD. I mean there is no way in hell you can just accept his as strong as he is cuz he ran and did push up, etc. Theres just no way. Unless his not human and they just haven't told us yet. In the end tho I don't give a **** who would win. Why cuz I don't see a point in getting into fights over something so stupid as two people from different universe that will never meet. I mean think about if they did a cross over and they fought nether would win, It would get interrupted by some asshole or whatever it would end with the classic best friends, Your a strong fighter bs. *Sigh* -_-
