That gif just cements the fact that people are reaching when crying "OH NOES DISNEY IS MAEKING ALL WOMENZ LOOK THE SAMMEE!!!!111!1"

Rapunzel's eyes are squinted, so are Elsa's. Wow, squinted eyes looking similar? Huge shocker there. But the Anna and Rapunzel comparison is such ********. Their coloring is different, their eye shapes are vastly different, and they don't look the same. I know you probably didn't make that gif, but whoever did a really poor job conveying their point with it. Rapidly flashing 3 faces without giving the audience enough time to compare them does not make a convincing argument.

From what I see in the movie still from Tangled, Rapunzel's nose has an upturn while Anna's nose is downturn. Also, it's okay for them to be made in similar styles. What the tumblr idiots are shrieking about is that Disney doesn't care enough about women to make them look different, which is completely absurd.

I'm sorry, it's just that people are bashing this movie for dumb reasons, and I've been following (and subsequently in love with) this movie since July.

Take this dress --->www.dhgate.com/product/custom-made-sweetheart-sheath-twist-bodice/167673979.html#s4-8-1|367186825

Cut these You need to login to view this link into rectangles and glue them onto the bodice.

then I'll probably ask my grandma make me a long sleeved shirt out of mesh, sew the cape onto the dress, and cut a slit into the dress.

I've just got to save up a lot, because the wig I want is 80 bucks+shipping. Then I need blue contacts. The dress and wig will be the most though. I'm going to try to find a cheaper dress locally if I can.

That could work well. I've got a friend who's planning on doing an Elsa cosplay too, but she's somewhat of a perfectionist who takes everything over the top. (I-don't-see-her-finishing-this-dress-within-her-lifespan over the top) Instead of something simple, she's planning on molding her own clear shoes out of resin, crafting some special type of plastic bodice and gluing the sequins and rhinestones onto there, and even going so far as to SEW the beads onto the cape if they don't look perfect enough. Yet, she hasn't really finished more than 1 and a half cosplays and has like 50 "planned out". It's to the point where I just want to tell her, she can't back up her words.

Lol, I'm a perfectionist too. I have no idea how to mold shoes, so that's out of the question, lol. I was just hoping to find plastic shoes and cut them to the shape.
And honestly, crafting a bodice isn't really necessary, that's why I figured I'd go with a dress in the same color and then alter it. Avoid unnecessary steps while having it still look good.

Large eyes, small nose, narrow waist, expressive eyebrows, bow lips, rather wavy hair, slender.

Disney found the formula that worked and they stuck to it.

Alright, I'm not going to pretend like I'm some cultural or political correctness guru here. My understanding of the subject is very limited, but as a studying animator, I have heard arguments from both sides of this fence regarding Disney's selection of stories and their racial significance.

In Disney's official Princess lineup, their are 13 women. Among these, only 4 of them represent culture outside of Europe.

So breaking down that ratio, it would be 9:1:1:1:1.
With each "1" representing a specific cultural demographic. Chinese, Native American, etc.
Many view this as unfair, as each culture only has one heroine that they can directly relate to by culture, and at many times, is inaccurately represented.

However, I do understand in part why Disney doesn't do more ethnically diverse stories.
For one, many of the Disney Princesses were written early on in the company's history, prior to the civil rights movement in America. With these films written for american audiences, which, back in the day, still possessed racial bias and stigmas. So of course they'd write for the audiences, that at the time, were primarily white.

However, as we progress into the modern age, we come across another road block. Cultural advocacy groups, which I'm all for, but undoubtably can halter the production of a film, and alter the way they write and portray a character, setting, or theme, based on the weight history has had on them, while still making it palatable for modern audiences. If you want an example, just look at all the changes they had to make to the character of Tiana from The Princess and the Frog before they could finalize a character design and backstory.

Disney's then stuck between a rock and a hard place.
They want to write a cultural story for everyone, but also have to be aware of the baggage each cultural ethnicity carries, and actually care enough to do it right.
But they also need to make money, so the default is white because it's easier to write for.

But it's more than just the ease of writing and I think you know this but ran out of room.

For one, little girls associate 'Princess' with a certain stereotype, one that has been constructed over the years by Disney themselves. The two 'least' princessy of these princesses were Mulan and Tiana, neither of whom were even from wealthy backgrounds, let alone nobility. You could arguably put Belle in there too but she wore the fancy dresses and sang the songs and ended up living in a castle so I'd call foul on that one.

No, Mulan and Tiana are the least 'princessy' of the princesses. They also happen to be the best role models for children, the most progressive, the most interesting, and the most engaging characters of the bunch whilst also having the most visually distinct films. However... of those films only one of them made bank (Mulan with 300M+).

So of the 'non-princessy' princesses Disney only has one that has ever been a hit. Now this is open to extraneous variables like the culture into which PatF was released and it's overall mediocre quality, but at the end of the day Disney knows what makes bank and more often than not it's pretty white girls.

And furthermore, the majority of 'princess' stories come from Europe, where people were mostly white. Traditional stories from other cultures had very different styles of writing and narrative that wouldn't translate well to modern culture, so Disney have less to work off of.

HOWEVER, Disney has come back with three films and what is arguably the start of their second renaissance. One is a straight-up princess movie. The other is the best movie I've ever seen them make that wasn't based on Shakespeare. And the last is such a fantastic subversion of the traditional princess movie that it could only be made by people who do that genre as well as Disney.

It seems Disney are doing new and interesting things now and as a company nearly 100 years old (91) it's works need to be viewed in relation to their release dates.

Did you seriously just confuse Arin Hanson with Chris Hansen? So what, does he animate and play video games at night and catch pedophiles by day?

Are you sure she can only draw simplified chibis with the same face?

That's just her style. She doesn't use any details in her people when the person in particular isn't a specific person, to avoid any claims of drawing one more black person than white person or something like that. Just plain people, differently colored to differentiate. Gender is quite a topic with her, so she does differentiate between that.

Also, I think this makes a decent reply picture.

Brown eyes are dominant to blue. One of your parents handed off that allele. So, brown eyes.

what i got from tumblr is lots of white people flipping tables because the chatacters wern't black and 'white washing'
i really do not understand why they were upset, disney go into great detail of the stories and origins and sets them to the original story as close as possible.

they also got upset because Anna and Elsa looked a bit like Rapunzel. coming from someone who is studying character developtment, they have different face shapes, eye shapes, skin colours, and Anna has rosy cheeks and freckles and a lot more detail in her eyes.

but yeah sorry about the ranty thingy. sometimes tumblr just make up something to be angry at nothing.

I'm starting to think that some people would die without having some sort of drama. Just look at celebrity relationships and ****, you see magazine covers everywhere claiming that celebX and celebY are having huge ******* arguments and meltdowns with celebX cheating on celebY with half of the country when in reality, they're perfectly happy and there isn't anything out of the ordinary happening.
