In a related story that's not quite as scary but now that I think about it...

So I'm walking home one night about a year and a half ago, middle of summer so it's warm out and everything. I don't have a car, I don't have a phone. So I had no choice but to walk back from the town I'd been at which is the next town over. Unfortunately that's a two and a half hour walk for me along the high way. I was in town hanging out with a friend at the time and I stayed hanging out with them until about eight in the evening. Still light out and I know it's going to be a really long walk back, so I stop at a local pizzaria to order a large pizza to eat on the way home.

About an hour and a half into the walk, I'm walking down a big hill. It's on the highway and it's somewhere close to ten at night. Got what's left of my pizza in my hand and the night is pitch black. There's not even stars out it's so dark. I'm not worried about coyotes or anything (we have those here in Indiana, pretty common) because it's a well traveled highway.

About halfway down the hill I get this... feeling, like I'm being watched in the darkness. I ignore it at first 'cause it's a common feeling when walking home at night. The more I walk down the hill, the more I get this feeling. There comes a point where it's getting difficult to walk because of the darkness and this feeling, and then I hear it. A scuff or a grunt or something, but it was really high pitched and it was right off the road from where I was. It took me by total surprise so I froze in place and just sort of listened, staring off in the direction it came from. I heard running through the grass that lead down the hill and into the woods further on down, the thing is, it was moving fast - must faster than a deer or a coyote should have been moving. And I heard it moving for a good two minutes before I started to move again.

After that, I booked it home as fast as I could.
