I think "fex" is "sex" with a slash through the "s", making it look like a curly f. People do this all the time with Z's to differentiate them from S's when their writing may become sloppy do to writing very quickly. Personally I would think that "non-slash" would be the intuitive way to have the S, but still, it's a thought.

How the hell can someone write so sloppily that the whole letter looks flipped? I put a dash in my Z's to keep them from looking like 2's.

Actually, it's semi-cursive. The tail of the "s" is curving forward to transition into the "e".

As a teacher, I've had to read some pretty terrible handwriting, so I'm used to translating.
