Cooler is the name of a cooler, like in the pic.
King cold is an ice cold beer, goes in the cooler

Chilled is named after chilli, the dish.

Refreshing, but sadly, incomplete. Here are a few more:

Ginyu = Gyunyu (Japanese word for milk)
Jeice = Cheese
Burter = Butter
Recoome = Cream (Pronounced Ku-REE-Mu in Japanese)
Guldo = Yogurt (Japanese = Yogurto)

Bardock = Burdock
Turles = Lettuce
Toma = Tomato (renamed Tora in English)
Seripa = Anagram of Parsley (renamed Fasha in english, based on Fava beans)(Concept name was Korn)
Borgos = Renamed, orignally Toteppo, based on Potato
Shugesh = Originally Pumbukin, after Pumpkin
Gine (Bardock's Wife/Goku's Mother) = Anagram of Negi, AKA Green Onions
Brolly =Broccoli
Paragus = Aspragas
Tarble, Vegeta's brother = vegeTABLE

Dende = Japanese word (denden-mushi) meaning Snail
Dende's brother, Cargo = Escargot
Moori (Elder of Dende's village) = Katatsumuri, another Japanese Snail
Nail = Snail. Derp.

Bojack = Japanese word (bōjakubujin) for arrogance
Bujin = See Bojack
Kogu = Japanse word (gokuakuhidou) for heinous/inhumane
Bido = The "hido" part of Kogu's name
Zangya = Japanese word (zangyaku) for cruelty

Bulma's Daughter, Bra = Bra
Bulma's Sister, Tights = Tights
Bulma's Mother, (unofficially named by Toriyama in an interview) Panchy = Panty

There are plenty more, but I'm tired and done typing for now.

Jeice = Cheese?
I always assumed Jeice = Juice :v
User avatar #48 to #45 - pootisspencer (03/14/2015) [-]
Jeice's Japanese name was Jisu, pronounced Jee-soo. The Japanese pronunciation of "Cheese" is "Chee-soo." Also, the Ginyu Force's name theme is dairy products, so juice doesn't fit, but I can see why people would think that.
User avatar #51 to #48 - foreveranonymous (03/14/2015) [-]
Ohh I understand now, thanks for the explanation!

Nice list, here's to add on:

The Freeza type , their power level is based on how "cold" they are

Freeza (Freezing), Kura (Cooler), King Cold, Chilled. Only exception would be Kuriza, Freeza's son.
User avatar #54 to #52 - pootisspencer (03/14/2015) [-]
Well, Kuriza has a chestnut-shaped head. The Japanese word for Chestnut is Kuri, which is ALSO the source of Krillin's name, "Kuririn."

So... I guess Kuriza is the sone of Frieza and... Krillin?

Yikes.

Although, Frieza DID penetrate Krillin pretty hard that one time...

When I was a kid, and we were all playing and pretending we were DBZ (I had no idea what it was nor had I watched it yet), I would just play along. I remember being the characters piccollo and Frieza, and I could only picture myself being a pickle or a freezer. All my friends thought I was retarded.

* About the new DBZ movie trailer? *
#91 to #85 - potaravegito (03/15/2015) [-]
Concerning.

I really really loved Battle of the Gods. Easily the best DBZ movie and maybe my favorite DBZ thing in the entire series.

But the premise of this is just so... what? Freiza becomes an oscar? The transformation is enough to beat God Goku or at least SSJ3? Of course these are all assumptions I've pieced together from watching the trailer, and it could be all explained well and executed better.

I'm excited, because I love new direction DBZ has gone in so far, but skeptical because the premise for this just seems dumb.
User avatar #95 to #91 - cascarita (03/15/2015) [-]
I understand your concern. I'm actually kind of hyped about it but without high expectations. The only thing that is bugging me is the wish. I thought that Shenron could not revive someone who has been dead for a really long time or is it just me?
#96 to #95 - potaravegito (03/15/2015) [-]
Actually I feel like that might have been mentioned? It's ringing a very vague bell. I just looked through the DB wiki on dragon balls and Shenron and nothing like that came up.

So... maybe, maybe not?

I don't think they are puns so much as just names based off of food. Kakarot is just a name, asking someone if they like Kakarots in their salad would be a pun.
#89 - potaravegito (03/14/2015) [-]
So... Vegetable Carrot? Sounds a bit redundant. It'd be like calling your pet a Poodle Dog.

But hey! Did you ever wonder how Vegeta and Goku makes Vegito? Well, let's find out! You see, Vegito is actually one hell of a botched name when it comes to the dub of the show. To be exactly, Vegito comes from Vegeta and Kakarotto, Goku's japanese version of his Saiyan name. So, when you squish them together, it becomes Vegeto!... But wait it's spelled Vegito? Yep! Why? Because! I really don't know. Most translations of the show do spell it Vegeto, but Fundimation had it spelled Vegito for... some reason?
User avatar #98 to #89 - Vegeto (03/15/2015) [-]
Time for Vegeto facts!

The character's name is ベジット (bejitto). It's a combination of ベジータ (bejiita) and カカロット (kakarotto).

The "tto" sound (as opposed to just "to") generally infers a harder consonant sound. That "o" sound is, in a way, just a relic of the Japanese phonetic system and doesn't necessarily need to be over-pronounced.

Basically, you get "Kakarot" (or "Kakarrot" if you want to make the "carrot" pun a little more obvious) when you transliterate and adapt into our alphabet.

And "Vegeta" is a pretty standard adaptation, considering how obvious the pun is and what English word it comes from.

The thing is, the "tto" ending in ベジット proves a problem if you use "Vegeta" and "Kakarot" if you want to be super consistent about things. It's especially troubling when you literally have the character saying something like, "Vegeta and Kakarot? I guess that makes me _______!" You have to make some sort of compromise.

Do you leave off the "o" in "tto"...? If so, you end up with "Veget" (or "Vegett")... which... would just as likely be construed as a typo of "Vegeta". For what it's worth, a lot of very early DBZ fans online used "Vejit" for his name spelling.

Do you just call the character what he is, as-is, and don't worry about over-explaining it? Go with "Vegetto". Or, if you're FUNimation, you spell it as "Vegito" for some strange reason (once again adding in a letter "i" for some inexplicable reason).

Do you try to adapt the name pun in some other way? Maybe you go with "Vegerot" like Viz did.

This is why translation is an art and not a science, particularly when it comes to Toriyama's names and puns.

The Ginyu force are all named after dairy products like butter Burter and cheese Jeice with Ginyu being similar to the Japanese word for milk.
Demon king Piccolo also had Tambourine, Drum and Cymbal as minions (three guesses as to the theme there)
Kami is a Japanese word meaning god who walks the earth This is more because Kami doesn't actually know his own name and so just goes by his job title and a Guru is a spiritual leader and teacher
And of course the filler villians, Garlic Jr. Pepper, Cinnamon Ginger, Mustard and Vinegar.
