This site has been overrun by kids who don't even know what sarcasm is. They'll thumb up a two letter comment 1,000 times and downvote in the blink of an eye. The great FJ community we once knew is gone.
TFW a few years back you thought moves like that looked cool as hell.
And then you looked at a few videos about real medieval martial arts, and you're basically told that they're completely useless.
Just flashy fantasy videogame / movie ******** , that would get you killed in actuality.
Real moves done right look pretty cool though. It's a lengthy video, but explains pretty good. Place animation like this is a game like Dark Souls you'd have some good combat. You would have to be able to block and attack at the same time though, which you can't do in pretty much any game, unless it's a special move or something.
In their defence, the majority of animations for weapons in dark souls are very close to realistic maneuvers/techniques and are very well done. Granted they were designed to be like a novice wielding them ie swinging the longswords with a shield cause you to overextend somewhat but still show good posture and technique... just a few of the exotic weapons have over-exaggerated swings and animations mainly for style and flair (looking at you most lunging/leaping attacks and boss/dragon weapons).
that's how it is when you would pit 2 humans with 1 fantasy and 1 realistic fighting style,however without a doubt doing fantasy spins does in fact put more power into your strikes and they show up in fantasy settings where you could be fighting a giant creature instead of a human.
It's a partial joke that I can actually say some Japanese sentences, and he said I'm a weeb, so I argued and argued the opposite, then I just let it be, now it's some stupid Joke, that and I constantly say "I'm not a weeaboo though"
Hopefully DS3 will fix the issues with the game being designed to run at 30fps either by locking frames (people can bitch more about frame locks, devs do it for valid reasons most of the time.) or designing the game to run at 60fps to avoid jumping and combat issues. Biggest issue with dark souls 2 is the people who HAVE to play at 60fps because "PC master race" and have their weapons degrade twice as fast.
tldr for anyone who doesn't know, weapon degradation is based on frame ticks when colliding with objects, but the game was designed for 30fps. The dev's didn't lock frames but gave players the option to keep 30fps or bump it up to what their pc can handle, which inadvertently caused twice the amount of ticks towards weapon degradation when striking player/shields/terrain.
