There are still more factors involved in real life. With skype video they only see your face, and with skype calls it's only your voice. People are more likely to lie on the phone.

The only difference between my irl friends and my internet friends is physical contact. While you may disagree, and that's totally cool, I find it to be almost the same thing. What's the difference between 4 guys playing video games together in one of their houses, and 4 guys playing video games together over the internet? Actual physical contact is the only difference, and while that may be more important to some, it has no effect to me, or those that I Skype with.

You say that there are consequences for what you say in real life, but there are still consequences for what you say online as well. You may think, "But you don't really know these people, they can be anyone" and you were correct 5 years ago when I first started talking to them. Now however, I know all their names, their likes and dislikes, we're all friends on facebook, I know what they look like, and I've even told them stuff my irl friends don't know about. The ONLY thing that separates them from my irl friends is that I can't actually touch them. That doesn't affect me in the slightest though.

I have online friends too. I'm even friends with them on facebook just like you are. It's not the same as my real life friends though. It can't be. Maybe you disagree, and that's totally cool, but I find it to be different even if it's "almost the same." Maybe it's different because my real life friends share my interests other than just video games which I used to enjoy and play every day, but now I've realized that video games aren't a real hobby and are just a way to do something without actually having to do anything.
