and thats why DJs or electronic artists have to focus more on presentation and the show because they can't make the music in front of fans

music is music. live or recorded. who plays it, or where it comes from really doesn't matter as long as it sounds good. if it sounds good, it's good music. period. pretentious hipsters can suck a dick.

PS: I'd die to play 70 gigs a year. My band gets at best 25 gigs a year, and we have to travel all around to get to these gigs hauling equipment and paying out of our own pockets for food/lodging and maybe only get €100-€300/gig whereas these DJ fags get paid 800€/night at a steady once or twice-a-week gig in one club, and then another one-two nights/week in another club, and sometimes travel to other cities.

BUT!!!! The GEMA (German ASCAP) is finally putting a stop to this. The reason why clubs made a switch from live bands to electronic DJs was because:

a) there were simply too many bands at the end of the '90s
b) the bands who had the biggest turnout were cover bands, and the club has to pay royalties for this (expensive!)
c) DJs started bringing a larger crowd, and could play 3-6 hour sets with minimal effort and keep the people dancing all night and buying drink after drink

But now that GEMA found a way to properly tax DJ performances (or, rather, tax it in the same ungodly way they tax live bands), I think club owners might finally think more about what kind of music they want to have rather than just the cheapest thing. Unfortunately for many bands, this means the end of their career. There are simply too many bands, so none of then really even get a chance to make it big. I mean, there are likely near 100 metal bands in my city alone (city of ~1 million people). Maybe even more. Anyway, probably half of them are unbelievably good, and the other half suck donkey dong. But the only ones who get to play often either somehow have a decent following (been playing for over 10 years) or take the ****** no-paying gigs in every city they can (this means they either have day jobs or rich parents). Or they truly are great and have earned their way to playing good-paying gigs (although they only pop up about 10-20 times per year.

www.impossiblecolours.com in case you were wondering. Psychedelic/avant-garde **** .

I can agree to a point...there are some out that make me laugh and piss me off all at the same time. A weird feeling that is. There is a big difference from the "da club" dj and producers. If they're playing other people's **** and pretty much not doing anything to make it interesting or just pretending to be as cool as whoever they are ripping off... **** them. The ones that actually spend 90+ hours on each song, trying something new, and are actually controlling everything; those are the one to tip you hats to. they're like the old school cartoon one man band...least that what I do. And no one needs tables unless you need to scratch. it would be like asking carrot top to make his props live before using them (i know he's not my pint of beer either, but you get my point.) plus all those speakers, amps, mixer, preamps, compressors, drummachines, turntable(if your cocky), doesn't come cheap. A good DMX lighting system alone can through you back a good 2k. That's what it's really about though, the show it self. You can get drunk just as well in your own home, but go to the bar for a change, meet people, enjoy yourself. I put on shows, but i'm controlling everything. you hit me with a bottle all the lights go out and if i'm throwing down a lead riff on the keyboard it shuts down too.10 bucks a head and i only see 5. All of that money goes straight back into the show, more lights, lasers, and speakers...plus i play in real bands just to show i can actually play an instrument very well (to toot my own horn) most of the "dj {insert cheesy name here}" couldn't tell you how to change from a major to a minor scale with one note nor tell you anything that actually has to do with the understanding of music theory.....point being know the difference before you think you can do what they are doing...and if you can jump in and make the so called "ton of money" they make. why fight the devil when you could have him on your side.

I went to see the Planets by Holst a while back in concert. I loved it, It's one of my favorite concerts I've been to. I've seen Styx in concert, too - before they lost one of their members and half their library.

I'm sure there are literally millions of people who wouldn't go even if it was free. What people like is personal preference. If you don't want to go and see something, don't ******* go and see something. Why bitch about something hundreds of thousands of people enjoy? Because you don't approve? Because you're jealous? I just don't get the Gabriel Iglesias thing. Those kind of concerts just aren't the same as the others. Most bands have a playback track too, and a lot of people are still lip synching.

Last year it was Auto-tune, this year it's electronic music, next year it'll be bitching about Hatsuna Miku or some **** .

I don't really see why this is focused only on djs. Plenty of bands use playback aswell, it's not unique to djs.

That actually sounds like a cool job. Just load everything onto a CD and **** with bass and treble while you stand on a stage above an audience who effectively worship you your afro for a few hours. I'd do it.
