This is probably what I loved most about this movie: about 90% of the effects shown were all real. Technically seen this all was a mobile Rammstein-concert.
I have been hearing that max is barely involved in this film at all with him doing way less then ever and its kind of turned me off of wanting to see it.
Unlike most people here, I've been disappointed of this movie. It has some cool parts, I admit, but the overall feeling was of disappointment. I won't give any spoilers, I'll just rant a bit on the narrative and the reason why all effects are lame when put in contrast to the original Mad Max.
1. In a dystopic post apocalyptic world, where humans killed each other for a drop of oil, Furiosa (the main character not Max ) decides that the problem of this society is the objectification of women. So she kidnaps frees these breeder women in the search for a better place.
This was the biggest hole in the narration, it seemed to me a modern context was forcefully injected into the plot to appeal to the sensibility of the viewers. To me, it looked cheap.
On the aspect side, what I noticed was the complete lack of brutality. No, you won't explicitly see a biker fall under the wheels of a truck or a man who is pried to the front of a car getting squished into a tanker. The movie just shows the part where a guy falls and the scene cuts. It leaves you with the understanding that "yeah, that guy's toast" but you don't actually see it. It's like PG13 or something.
2. Explosions everywhere. If you can't CGI a car crash that involves the scattering of hundreds of pieces, just mask it with an explosion. Yeah... they're everywhere. Green screen type of **** with unrealistic explosions. This was probably my biggest disappointment. And the physics of how the flames act makes no sense.
I may be pedantic, I know, but other than that, the movie is ok.
1. Pretty sure that was less a modern narrative and Furiosa just wanting to personally help a group of women in a tough spot. Seemed to me in a world where everything's **** , she just wanted to do a touch of good in a way that she could with people she specifically sympathized with.
Fair point about the lack of brutality though.
2. Nope. Almost nothing of the car action you saw was CGI. Car crashes were practical effects, flames were practical effects, explosions were practical effects. I'd guess their looks were enhanced in post production, but even the ******* crazy guitar guy's guitar actually worked, and had a dude there jamming on it, flamethrower and all.
It's only Mad Max 1 that was about Max himself. The other movies use him as a perspective for the audience. He's not what the story focuses on, he's an element of the story. Road Warrior, Thunder Dome and Fury Road are legends being told of the what's out in the wild and how the mysterious Max fits into it.
Also you dun goofed saying that it was all CGI... there was a lot of compositing but not a single explosion was cgi.. Learn yourself before you speak **** again you ******* cunt.
I mean, sure, the most competent person in the film is a woman but there's no reason that she should be either male or female.
It seems like a lot of guys are mad because she shows Max up a couple of times and they're taking that as 'Women are superior in every way'
Not quite, but it was certainly influenced by feminists. It's gets very clear when you realize that their society was in point 6 of 100 from being a perfect society, and the movie tackled point 86. It's just not realistic.
The original Mad Max film was an abortion, the two following it were ******* tight. I don't know if I could enjoy a Mad Max without Mel Gibson in it though.
Like, completely. Without ruining the story, basically, everyone needs him because they're hopelessly ****** until he helps. And then for the later part/ending, he doesn't do as much, but he's certainly one of the main characters with a big role. They just gave lots of stuff to other characters to do as well.
well I also heard max never actually kicks anyone's ass in the film, and that he kinda sits and does nothing through out the film....can you confirm? because if the **** I have been hearing from my friends are a lie....im gonna be pretty pissed
That's pretty wrong, dude. He does a fair bit of beating people up, but a lot of action is given to other characters like the mad boys, Immortan Joe, and Imperator Furiosa. There is a bloody good bit at the start though, not his choice, but I must admit, I DID expect more from him. A lot of the violence takes place as a group, so it's not just Max doing his own thing, but he gets help from Furiosa, and a couple other characters.
the only bit i didn't like was the blood transfusion thing because it just doesn't work the way it's portrayed apart from that it's great not for story reasons but for the whole atmosphere of this postapocalyptic wasteland chase with action and explosions and ****
He's still a major player, but it's not really about him.
The movie itself is still really ******* awesome.
Trust me, you need to watch it if you like anything about Mad Max.
Also, beerholder is full of **** that is overanalyzing everything just as much as the feminist ***** he's talking about.
The movie is a fun ride of awesome post-apocalyptic car chases. Make your own opinion on the story.
My friend made his own(ish) world and game rules. My character is a dwarven army musician. Just as every marine is a rifleman, every dwarven soldier is proficient with axes of all types, I just took my knowledge to axes of a musical nature. Haven't found a guitar yet, I just wanted a terrible joke to tell.
I'm playing as a bard in a pathfinder game ran by sketchyz currently, and there's literally only one person who has a chance of stopping me if I go rogue.
Bards OP man, I'm now in a Roll20 campaign and i am the only PC to not have a Negative Encounter. I have a Fennec Fox Telepath Companion, when i was getting some ointment for poison oak.
i like to envision that he's just playing the same thing over and over while everybody else just keeps asking him if he knows any other goddamn song
>Frank you've been playing the same song for the past 4 hours
>Oh i'm sorry tom, do you have a flamethrower guitar? No? I'm the only one? Then go back driving the ******* car unless you know anything better
To be fair, at least in pathfinder, high level bards could cause a mosh pit and or just straight up play music so well that someone dies of pure joy or sorrow.
ran a small dick around game with a few buddies, my friend Jay made a rapper bard, i just said i'd let ballad singing be rap if he actually rapped every song he performed.
