The problem with cyber bullying isn't the things they say, it's the threats, the fear of the people on the other end.
I once talked to a guy who found out his son was skipping school. At first he said he was shocked because his son seemed like such a nice boy, and the kid didn't really want to talk about why he was doing it. Eventually he showed his dad his facebook page, which had everything ranging from the standard "We're gonna get you after school today" to actual death threats. This was a large group of people, and though none of them had made a move at him yet, just knowing that there were so many people who wanted to hurt him made him too scared to go to school, so for the past few days he'd packed his home clothes in his school bag and just changed in the public toilets, then walked around town for the day. He was too frightened to meet these people. Sure, he could ignore the messages and turn off the computer, but that wouldn't change anything. He felt like they'd come after him whether he read the messages or not.
Tl;Dr: It isn't "sticks and stones may break my bones....yadda yadda", it's about a real fear of the people threatening to attack you.

The problem is that younger people don't think that way, they still not mature enough. When someone starts to insult them online that seems to really get to them to the point where they try to change everything about themselves just to fit in. It messes with their heads a lot more than it does to ours.
