Not a snake expert, but I'm pretty sure this is a python (or some other boidae type of snake) - they bite very rarely and instead kill prey by constricting them.
nope, definitely a colubrid, my guess would be a kingsnake (Lampropeltis getula most likely). Usually fairly snappy snake, and more food-orientated than a starved labrador, but this one is probably a pet, so is used to people.
Actually, it is not a pet. It is a wild snake that I found and I thought he looked cute so I picked him up and pet him and he just chilled and let me pet him.
Hey, Mr. Snakeexpert, do snakes require a lot of constant effort to care for?
My brother wants to get one but i personally don't see him as a constant-care type of person.....
ball pythons are a species, just like corn snakes. They just have loads of different genetic mutations that mean they come in loads of colours and patterns depending on how much you want to spend.
Personally I'd recommend him to get a corn snake, as they're much more active than ball pythons so are more interesting.
As far as care goes, you have to change their water every day, clean out their poo whenever they poo, and feed them once every 5-14 days (depending on how old they are).
You don't really need to know when it's hungry, just offer it food according to the schedule and it will take it if the temperatures are correct.
As for live prey, absolutely not. I currently have over a dozen snakes at my place and not a single one of them eats live food. It's all bought frozen, stored in our freezer, and then defrosted in warm water on feeding day. Live feeding risks injuring the snake, and is relatively cruel if not done properly.
Ok, so basically just put in warm food from the store, if it eats it, cool, if not, freeze it again.
Alright, thank you Mr. Snakeexpert, i'll relay your information.
no, you buy frozen food from the shop, keep it in your freezer until you need it, then defrost it at home in warm water. If it doesn't eat it straight away, leave it in overnight, and if it's still there in the morning, throw it away.
NEVER refreeze the food, it can basically give the snake food poisoning
Nah, you've just got to do the research first, you'd be amazed how many people ask the same question.
If you want more specific information, just google 'corn snake care sheet' and you should get a lot of information. If you come across anything that confuses you, or have any questions that the sheets don't answer, just shoot me a PM
